They think it's all Oval... 8:07pm on 19 Aug 2009 Regarding posting number 64. Henry was in Edinburgh but only had shows on Saturday and Sunday past . I had the pleasure of meeting him there and he informed me that he will indeed be at the Oval but not commentating on TMS . Seems a great shame, I'm sure many of us will miss him greatly come 11.00 am tomorrow . Bring Back Blowers !

They think it's all Oval... 00:28am on 18 Aug 2009 I have been told by Blowers that he will be at the Oval but not commentating on TMS . Can't imagine anything that would prevent him from commentating as well as fulfilling other ' commitments ' . Please Bring Back Blowers!!

On the topic of team selection for the Oval , I understand that Blowers is not in the Team ! I spoke to him in Edinburgh yesterday and gather that although he will at the Oval he is not commentating . Shades of 2005! Whilst knowing that you ' rotate ' the team for some reason , we need Blowers for this match if possible .
Have gone off Matthew Hayden since he referred to himself in the 3rd person . I can still remember cringing when Michael Vaughan started doing this !

Good luck to you and the TMS team for coverage of the Ashes tests and the ODI's.Line-up for the first Test seems great !

I must agree with comments made by several above regarding Mark Pougatch and Arlo White. It is very important that the awful Radio 5 broadcasting style does not creep back into TMS for the Tests or ODIs. I have feared the worst for the summer as there is no soccer tournament to occupy Radio 5 and they have now finished the 'zoo-style' mauling of Wimbledon. The only Radio 5 broadcaster I can happily listen to regarding cricket is the excellent Alison Mitchell.

This Series is simply too important to be a vehicle for the egos of 'light entertainment ' broadcasters .

Don't panic! Lots more cricket to come... 9:23pm on 19 Aug 2008 I believe it is important to contribe to this debate before the' powers that be ' decide to remove the comments . I will attempt to itemise my main points to make them easier to digest.

1/ TMS is the most important programme in all of BBC sport broadcasting . This has been the worst summer of presentation I have heard in 25 years of listening . Adam Mountford is , in my opinion , in the process of destroying something that is very precious to many , many thouands of people in the name of ' laddish' popularism .

2/ I am a great admirer of most of radio 5's sports broadcasts . TMS is more important than all of it put together.

3/Mike Selvey needs to be reinstated . British cricket has lost him and Michael Vaughan in a week . In this ruthless climate surely it is time for Adam Mountford to 'walk'?

4/Aggers , CMJ , Henry and Vic Marks are peerless and should be treasured . Alison Mitchell has real potential if given a proper chance .

5/Comments from G Boycott , A Fraser , D Brown , S Pollock , A Stewart and G Gooch are always excellent .

6/We simply cannot have Mark Pougatch any longer .Even Arlo White is better . Simon Mann is the best of this bunch. The Fact that he is deemed to be ' senior ' at radio 5 simply doesn't count '

7/Phil Tufnell is hugely overused . Adam Mountford appears to think he is of great importance . Does anyone remember the issues regarding him as an England ' tourist '?. And , given the type of headlines he made before his 'jungle celebrity ', is he really a role model for children for whom TMS is the only ball by ball medium on the BBC ? Let us hope that D Gough is given his position next year

8/Great to see the Telegraph article . Maybe we shold write to cricket-loving MPs ? Anyone in John Major's constituancy?
Surely the days of 'Save TMS ' badges and banners at the ODIs must be close !

9/ Remember TMS lovers , in the words of Joni Mitchell , ' You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone ! '

How about Shilpa Patel for Producer !

From Twenty20 back to the Tests 11:24pm on 30 Jul 2008 First of all I think it needs to be stated that some of the comments relating to the excellent Dougie Brown are both ridiculous and offensive .
He has been a first rate representative of professional cricket , ask the PCA , and one of the most intelligent and articulate observers of the game . He has been great when given a full TMS role in the past and is totally wasted in the ridiculous ' roving ' role , as was the excellent Alison Mitchell .
A TMS with the above two intelligent and articulate people would be hugely preferable to one full of Phil Tufnells .
The TMS team for this match is excellent ,although CMJ is always missed .

Stanford to add to Twenty20 pot of gold 00:06am on 25 Jul 2008 Really sorry to read that Mark Pougatch is in the team for the finals day . He is not , in my opinion , suitable for cricket commentary .Also, please , no more Phil Tufnell . Ego does not equate with ' entertainment '.

Ready for Headingley and Flintoff's return 8:04pm on 17 Jul 2008 Thank goodness ! The TMS line-up for the 2nd Test is perfect in every way . Welcome back Henry !
I'm afraid I have to be negative about aspects of the coverage of the 1st Test. We simply have far too much of Phil Tufnell. Hopefully Darren Gough will get the 'television celebrity' role next year . Mark Pougatch is fine for general Radio 5 coverage . He is by far the least suitable of all those given a trial on TMS . When he and Phil Tufnell were on together I felt that I simply wasn't tuned in to TMS at all . It was the least appropriate pairing I have ever heard . TMS is the most unique and treasured programme in all of British sports broadcasting . Please do not spoil it in the name of ' popularism '.
Please give Alison Mitchell an opportunity in the TMS commentry role . Her contributions to the various 1 Day matches have been excellent and she does not let her ego get in the way of covering a game in an informative and entertaining style .

Congratulations on generally keeping up the high standards of TMS . The core trio of JA , CMJ and Henry are the best broadcasters on BBC sport and need to be on together as often as possible . Contributions from Vic Marks , G Boycott and G Gooch are also to be treasured .
May I , however , request no more Phil Tufnell ?He seems to be omnipresent and I am sure there are numerous ex players who could do the job !
On a more positive note , Alison Mitchell is excellent ! I predict that she will join the above mentioned trio in the future.
