Murray nears the summit 7:51pm on 17 Aug 2009 Well done to Andy, he has worked hard for this and done things his way, and is now reaping the reward. While he is fully deserving of the no.2 spot, we must remember that Nadals knees and subsequent time off did have a major part to play in Murrays rise to no.2.

Del Potro is in a similar (all be much higher) position than Andy was two years ago. A very talented young man but he needs to work on his strength, stamina and fitness. If he does this then his movement in general will also improve, making him very difficult to beat. It also might stop him taking multiple MTO's and 5 minute toilet breaks.

If that kiddies got one ounce of respect it will stay put until Daddy's got the vino jug on the mantelpiece. Doesn't baby realise Fisher senior is securing its future private education?

Only jesting of course, best of wishes for Ross on his impending fatherhood, and good luck for the Open, would love to see him lift the jug, hes a thoroughly nice chappy (and not a bad golfer either).
Your questions to Andy Murray 11:18am on 17 Jun 2009 How do you cope with all the expectation and hype that is generated by the media? Does it get to you in anyway, or are you able to shrug it off and focus on your preparation for Wimbledon?

Iain Carter's US Open Diary 11:40pm on 16 Jun 2009 'Having a British player third best in the world at tennis seems to have brought on a serious bout of Murraymania, but a UK a golfer at the same elevated level doesn't appear to have had a similar effect.'

Without showing disrespect towards Paul Casey (who has been on fine form), when was the last time we had a British tennis player at no. 3 (answer, 'never', since professional rankings began). And with Wimbledon and a good chance of a British winner just around the corner you have to expect a lot of hype (most of it from sports journalists).

So to try and compare the achievements or due recognition between Murray and Casey is a bit daft, and in all honesty its sub-standard sports journalism.
Capello & Kazakhs satisfied 00:17am on 07 Jun 2009 In the end it was another fully professional performance that I am getting used to now from the England team under Capello. We were a little nervy at the start, but I think that is to be expected considering the fact the players have just come off the back of a long season, were playing 3000 miles away from home and had to come to terms with a pitch thats worse than my back garden (and I havent cut it for 3 weekd either!).

I am hoping however that Capello had finally found his 'shape' for the team. The players seem to be playing well together in the positions they have been assigned, and I believe that they can only get better IF they are now left alone to gel as a unit and get used to their prescribed roles (I am especially impressed with Gerrards 'floating' left hand wing role).

Looking forward to Wednesday, and looking for another professional performance from England.

Ahh, there you go you see, you are basing your experiences on the big city of London. I live in the north of England, and often visit quality restauraunts with many michelin stars that use only local ingredients to prduce fantastic food.

You cannot base a whole nation (or their people) from experiences from one particular place. It would be like me saying 'I dont like people from Kazakhstan because I met a few people in Astana who were rude' or 'Kazakhstan food isnt very nice, I had one meal in Almaty that was horrible!'

Britain is much more than London, as Kazakhstan is much more than Almaty.

I think its pretty harsh to insult Kazak food when you haven't even tried it. Much of there food is traditionally cooked, hearty and quite tasty (not much fruit and veg' though :)). And to link the use of preservatives and insecticidesto income and standard of living isn't exactly the most insightful of comments.

All english food isn't the same, we do have good food over here, with a wide variety of fresh ingredients - please dont base our food on what you see in supermarkets!!! That type of food is for people who do not have the time to cook a proper meal.

Also, I realise that you are from another country so English is not your 1st language, but just a tip - it is spelt 'cuisine', not 'cousin'. Cousin is a relation within your family, so to say that you have eaten British cousin sounds a little bit sadistic.

Anyway, well done to the FA for getting our players involved with the local Kazak community, putting in the 'hearts and minds' operation now will have a beneficial impact between both countries for years to come.

Three cheers for Boo 11:56am on 20 Sep 2008 Have to agree that Boo's antics were a little unfair, though I dont think he meant any wrong in it, he just wanted the crowd to get really involved. Its just something the Europeans will have to put up with, a 40,000 strong partisan crowd is going to get rowdy no matter what you do (Id like to see the brave man who has the bottle to ask them to keep it down a bit). It will be interesting to see how Oliver Wilson will deal with that kind of pressure in todays session.

As for the comments regarding Harrington being dropped, its seems a bit ridiculous that you would want to drop one of the best players Europe had yesterday. You could have put any one on the planet against Mickelson yesterday and he would have beat them. He was on fire.

I have to say that even though I was disappointed that Europe came out of the first day with so few points, I was absolutely mesmerised by the golf on offer. Probably the best first day of Ryder Cup golf ive seen in a long time. The Europeans over all didnt play badly, the Americans were just too good. First time Ive seen JB Holmes, and every drive he hits has me in stitches (just hit it as hard as you can towards the flag and lets see what happens! Great stuff).

I just hope that the Europeans now realise that they are in a real tough game and this inspires them to raise their own standards. Good Luck!
Ryder Cup ready to rumble 00:30am on 19 Sep 2008 Have to agree that Faldo did look a little nervous on the stage, and did indeed stumble through a few of his sentences (not to mention some ill timed quips and decidedly unfunny comments - do they have tumbleweed in Kentucky?).

The rest of the European team however looked relaxed, confident and ready to get on with things. And how about those pairings? The US have arguably their best looking pair in Mickelson and Kim, but I still cant see them beating Harrington and Karlsson (Karlsson is piping everything he hits at the moment, and in foursomes its essential to hit it straight down the centre. Phil and Kim, while both superb players, dont always hit the fairways). I think its also been quite clever sticking the experienced Harrington and ice cool Karlsson out first as Mickelson and Kim will draw the biggest and rowdiest crowd of the day. When I look at the rest of our pairs, I think we have the uper hand in each (Im drooling over the Westwood/Garcia match already).

But who knows, this is the Ryder Cup and it all depends on how you play on the day, if we start well, then I think the weekend will be in Europes hand before its really started.

Best of luck to all the European boys, bring that trophy home where it belongs!
China for gold, Britain for bronze? 00:03am on 23 Aug 2008 I dont understand where all this 'sitting down sports' stuff is coming from. It takes immense training, dedication and the ability to put yourself through 4 years of physical exhaustion to get to the level that the cyclers and rowers have done. Id like to see all the negative armchair sports experts on here put as much effort in. And if I remember rightly, the 'sitting down sport' of cycling was where Australia grabbed 10 medals in Athens (5 of them gold?). If they had done that this time around the Aussies would clearly be above GB in the medals table.

Just all seems a bit daft and hypocrytical for me. And whatever happened to friendly banter and rivalry? Im used to Australia whooping us in the Cricket, Rugby and even on occasion the football (our national sports). I and no doubt the majority of Brits just put this down to the fact we were rubbish and the Aussies were better, (well done, good game and hopefully we will beat you next time). But as soon as GB gets some sporting success, theres a backlash of nasty remarks and childish comments coming from the southern hemisphere (such as 'your competing as 4 countries in one team so its not fair and doesn't count' and 'you have got more people than us so were actually above you on the 'per capita' medal table'). Its the IOC medal table that counts, and for nations and their media to start fiddling around with it and making their own interpretation just because their country isn't doing so well stinks of nationalistic machoism that really shouldn't have a place in todays world.

Personally I dont care if Australia, Russia or even the Cayman Islands came above us in the medal table, all im bothered about is the fact we have exceeded expectations as a sporting nation and we should be immensely proud of the efforts of ALL our athletes, giving them the recognition they deserve and have worked hard for.
