Ewan McLennan 10:10pm on 21 Oct 2009 A friend recommended I book Ewan for my music venue in West Yorkshire (Raggalds Acoustic) and when I checked him out immediately and booked him just as quick. Looking forward to seeing him there in February, though the Topic Folk Club also featured him a few weeks ago and he was excellent. He appeared in a double header evening with Andi Neate who is a superb singer and her new CD is excellent. Be good to hear her on the show too Mike. Try the track 'Tails from the Circus' - lovely!

Darwin Song Project - Jez Lowe 12:54pm on 26 Mar 2009 Thanks for the insight Jez - really looking forward to the concert at Shrewsbury FF. The recent concert following the week of writing seems to get excellent reviews so everyone obviously did a great job.

Classic Folk Albums - Your Suggestions Please! 11:09pm on 17 Sep 2008 Good idea Mike - it would be great to hear some of the classics of the past and present as well as more of the newly emerging artists which we are in the great position of being to enjoy.

It's a tough choice but there is no doubt that my No 1 classic is Alright Jack by Home Service - a work of genius led by the great John Tams but with a stellar cast of musicians

Second would probably be 'Battle of the Field' by the Albion Country Dance Band - tremendous line up and great songs - particularly 'I was a young man'

For a modern classic I would look no further than Island Stories by Tom Bliss - admittedly a compilation but what a collection of great and moving stories.

If I could have a fourth it would have to be Jez Lowe 'Bad Penny' - so redolent of my early life in the South Durham Delta!

But enough from me look forward to others' comments

After making my earlier comment I suddenly realised that road building may have been one of the original ballads and checked the site out - I intend to listen when I have a few mnutes spare.

Great to hear the concert at last on Wednesday - is the project you refer to the one you mentioned at the gig at The Priestley in Bradford - about Butterworth and the other English composers - I hope so. but whatever it is I am sure it will be great.

Shame you were not properly credited on R4 Pick of the Week - unless you have metamorphosed into Mike Harding since I last saw you in Dent

Mel on the R2 forum suggested that you may be looking for new subjects for the ballads - as a civil engineer can I suggest the road navvies
