Across the water 12:11pm on 04 Nov 2008 The result will be very close, but I think that labour will scrape home and win the byelecetion. The circumstances in the election are different in that the sitting MP died rather than that in Glasgow East where he resigned before his election expenses were looked at by the authority's

Bring on a general election and let Gordon Brown know what his fellow countryment think of him amd his party.
The lipstick strategy 3:52pm on 22 Sep 2008 At the labour conference the spokespeople are lecturing to the people that already are labour party supporters. The speakers would be better off speaking to the electorate in general about what they will do to help them, rather than preaching to the converted. Surely someone at the conference can stand out from the crowd and call for a general election. Labour would not win the election right now by waiting any longer would surely delay the inevitable.
Give the electorate what they want and let him fall on his sword. After the election in Glenrothes, which they will probably lose, the call will get even greater.
I dont even think that David Cameron would make e very good PM either as he just seems to stand back and let gordon Brown put his foot in it.
I would love to know what he would do to help the economy right now
Not a great day 12:33pm on 04 Sep 2008 I think that Wendy Alexander and the Labour Party have been punished enough as they have Gordon Brown at the helm and that is punishment enough, as it will probably cost them the next election.
Let her off the hook as she is no longer in power andto bar her for 1 day will in effect penalise her constituents, who she is meant to represent.
Sooner or later 2:51pm on 01 Sep 2008 The result will be greatly awaited, but if Labour do lose, then will there be a general election. There will be calls for it but Gordon Brown will not give in.
I would not like to see an election as the economy, at this time would not stand the turmoil that it would cause.

I pity the constituents as I have just been through Glasgow East and got pestered every day on my voting intentions
On the tour bus 4:51pm on 29 Jul 2008 The tour just seems like another exercise in PR by Alex Salmond. He is getting really good at it. Maybe the Labour Party can learn from him. Doubt it though as their heads are still buried in the sand and the SNP's heads are well in the air. My prediction is that come the next local elections the SNP will gain control of Glasgow Council. Dont think that it would surprise anyone.
Not technical, but fundamental 10:36pm on 28 Jul 2008 In the small time that the SNP have been in power is anything to go by, they have managed to avoid the banana skins that the Labour Party seem to find regularly. Ever since the untimely death of Donald Dewar, they seem to have gone from worse to even worse. It would be a brave person to take on the job and the media would be on his or her back from day one.
With regard to the SNP, I can see them being in power in Scotland for a long time as the electorate has gone off the Labour Party. The other parties are not even in the same planet as Labour or SNP and might as well not even stand for election in Scotland.
Business as usual? 10:11am on 28 Jul 2008 Does anybody actually think the people in Scotland want independence or are genuinely interested in it. Most people do appear more interested in the rising cost of living these days.
Business as usual? 3:31pm on 26 Jul 2008 The vote in Glasgow East is more of a vote against The Labour government than it is pro SNP. The people of the area voted against Gordon Brown and co mainly because the party has been in power in this constituency since 1922 and the deprivation has got worse, health has got worse and the standard of housing is almost third world. Some parts of the area look like they have been bombed by the Americans.
The Labour Party used to wheel out the standing MP, David Marshall, every five years and people voted for him without thinking. The Labour party then put him away in a cupboard for another five years until needed again. The constituents were used and have now wakened up to that fact. Just hope that the new Member is up to the job and does not disappear.
Labour lagging in by-election race 10:14pm on 05 Jul 2008 The East end of Glasgow is a slum and if the new Member of Parliament for the area can do something about clearing the slums then they will get my vote at the next general election
