No rush for Rodwell move 2:19pm on 19 Nov 2009 It turned out that the Rooney deal wasn't too soon, but talk of anyone signing Rodwell seems premature. Rodwell's star is unlikely to fade by staying at Goodison for longer, is it?

Not so Big Four 3:04pm on 20 Oct 2009 Tough games for the top 4 so far, but we're still only 9 games into the season. The cream has a way of rising to the top. My suspicion is that a lot of football fans would be happy to see an end to the big four, but at this stage of the season it could still be just wishful thinking.

Santosh, it sounds like things were tough for you - but I suspect this may be an enormous waste of your empathy. If you had followed the blog back in the glory days, you'll know that Mihir never replied to comments.
Steely Ennis has golden glow 08:52am on 17 Aug 2009 coolblue1966, this is not a rod with which to beat the BBC - Ennis was excellent, but Bolt was beyond excellent. Someone will always win gold, but someone won't always destroy not only a world record but the perception of what might be possible in the event. I'm delighted for Ennis nonetheless, she looked every inch a champion.

Isn't that the best way to win just about any Test match in any situation? Perhaps the bowlers should target the top of off stump and the batsmen should look to turn 50s into centuries!
Broad's Ashes spot no longer secure 8:48pm on 05 Aug 2009 Swann is also not under the same pressure as Broad because, amongst other things:

1) He's the only spinner we're playing, therefore not exactly in direct competeition
2) He's got real form - more wickets than any other Test match cricketer this year - which suggests patience is deserved
3) He's bowled several meaningful spells, including 4 big wickets in the second innings at Lord's.
4) Actually, if you leave aside the abomination that was Cardiff, his figures hold up alright. With Broad there remain questions - not least the fact that he's played 20 Tests and still hasn't got his average below 40.

But don't forget 2006-9 - a string of turning up poorly prepared for tours, some terrible efforts with the ball, average in the high thirties.

The selectors have been stung by him before, and that means he has to prove himself doubly to get a game. And I for one have no issue with that.
