Morbo, 'El Mega Duelo' and Mourinho 5:33pm on 17 Sep 2009 Phil, your suggestion that Mourinho and Cruyff are some kind of pals leads me to question your knowledge of what you're writing about, they hate each other.

Mourinho has spoken of his contempt for Cruyff and his time at Barca, and his machiavellian behind the scenes manipulations at the time he was assistant there to Robson and Van Gaal (another Cruyff enemy).

They weren't exactly sending each other love notes in his Chelsea period either. And is he really friends with La Porta?

Please no, there are few things duller than listening to current or ex-footballers speak, I wish broadcasters would drop this starstruck obession with people just because they are famous, it's a sickness.

There are a handful of people in football who can talk like Mourinho, Wenger or Ferguson (oh well) otherwise I'd much rather hear from an articulate fan, intelligent journalist or anyone but people who are only on just because they're a celebrity.

Well it's obviously so unpopular. Nothing at all to do with any criticism you got of course, the tiny bit that's allowed through, that isn't 'moderated'.
Thursday 25 June 2009 11:12pm on 25 Jun 2009 The uniqueness of the BBC was displayed in all its glory in tonight's feature on expenses; it was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time.

But why wasn't Kirsty demanding in her usual tone that presenters pay and expenses are revealed? Loved the subtle reference by her that the problem is 'in particular with BBC entertainment stars'.

Not those other presenters, that do news and things.
The inside track on Inside Sport 4:05pm on 13 Apr 2009 Agree with the previous correspondents about Football Focus, whose banality makes it virtually unwatchable for me and other football fans I know. This is partly because its pundits are solely ex-players, who famously have little to say and are too scared of their colleagues to say anything contentious. This is why at least one non-player such as a journalist or independent person must be on sports shows to break-up the conformist old pals act.
Michael Parkinson and Des Lynam both said about TV sport that they are too obsessed with famous faces and don't care if they have nothing to say.

Britain censors sexual imagery more than any other European country, yet our politicians watch porn themselves; they admit to have taken drugs, yet say the penalties should be increased for others; they say crackdown on benefit cheats, yet milk the system for every penny they can get.

Do as we say, not as we do, and then they ask for more respect!

If they moralised less, they might get less criticism.

Has there been much introspection and self criticism in Brazil about another coaching flop, or are they blaming nasty Europeans?

I thought it was ironic that, despite the election, the BBC panel still frequently consistented of old, middle-aged, middle-class white blokes.

The comments of John Bolton caused a lot of comment amongst my friends, and had us reaching for the off switch quicker than Andrew Neil!
What we can learn from post-match reaction 8:38pm on 18 Sep 2008 The short answer is nothing! My wish for the BBC is if a manager has said nothing of interest don't use it.

The BBC seems to feel obliged to use the quotes of managers and players even though 95% of the time they are completely bland and tell us nothing.

Although by this criteria the BBC would have to ditch a large percententage of its pundits and commentators too.
