Nationalists need new narrative 12:07pm on 30 Mar 2009 You're not far wrong here Brian. The SNP also need to sharpen up their offensive, it's too lax at present and allows opposition parties to have their 'sound bites' to be repeated too often.
Crossing borders 6:11pm on 23 Mar 2009 Now now Brian, you know full well that the FM's visit to China was reported in the Herald on 13 January and the Edinburgh Evening News on 26 January.

This is Gordon Brown trying to upstage Alex Salmond and Murphy's visit, if you investigate, has been hurriedly arranged to be before the G20. If you listen to what he said on the Politics Show he clearly states that he's going there to 'help build a consensus for the G20.'

He's using the name of Scotland to do it too and I do object to that.

Alex Salmond is going as the FM of Scotland and with only Scotland's interests at heart.

Cash cuts 11:56pm on 12 Mar 2009 Dundee has changed in the past 50 years since I happily roamed its streets without a care in the world.

A change for the better? Not particularly but the people haven't changed, they're still made of strong stuff and will cope with this news from NCR.

I find the atmosphere of the city lacking in something but I believe the Scottish government is investing some £millions into a decent waterfront development. If Dundee has visionary architects and planners these days (something they've obviously been without in the past) then something good may turn into something great.

BTW Brian, I much preferred to be educated in Peddie and Kinnear's famous building.

I understand how you feel. Everyone has to vent their anger in some way don't they? Yours is against the Scottish government and all because one of Gordon's pals in his little banking coven has been found out.

Don't worry too much, there are many more to come or should I say go.

Once we get control of our own money then our councils will be properly administered.

No problems at my council, they just get on with the job and always have done. You can guess it's not labour.
Counter Attack 11:43am on 10 Feb 2009 I agree with Jim in Aberdeen. The average person who borrows from a bank does it in the form of a mortgage, thus the relevant property is the collateral.

Why should Worrall Thompson and his ilk be given loans without some form of security.
A done deal? 6:41pm on 03 Feb 2009 The loss of these registers has to been looked into very thoroughly. As some have already stated, far too many people 'in the know' said an SNP win. A labour win of a few hundred would have been acceptable, but there's always been something strange in the size of the gain.

Surely a nice wee job for labour's new trainees would be to build a secure bunker somewhere in mid-Scotland where these important documents could be archived.

Seems the SNP have been asking since November to sight these registers and were only told this weekend they were 'lost'. Aye right ...

Is Ian Gray trying to do a 'saviour of the Scottish budget' by any chance? It wisnae me scenario?

He ought to be ashamed of his party's behaviour. On Wednesday he did nothing for the good of Scotland.

What he should have been doing is supporting the SNP who are doing their best (hands tied behind their backs) to ensure people keep their jobs. Where these thousands of apprentices are going to serve apprenticeships is anyone's guess.

But they'll take youngsters off the benefit system for a few years, won't they Ian. That's what it's all about to you. Plus, of course, you don't want to be thought of as unco-operative do you? The Tories put you to shame and I've never voted tory in my life.
Budget trigonometry 10:45pm on 30 Jan 2009 Brian, this comment isn't particularly related to this thread but may I ask a question.

Why doesn't the BBC start FMQs 2 minutes earlier and finish 3 minutes later and then you can give your splendid introduction, we hear all of the first question and the last, plus of course your wee chat with your newspaper mate for evaluation?

PMQs get all of 90 minutes on a Wednesday with all the analysis etc. We get slightly less than 30 minutes. Both our PM and FM take questions for 30 minutes.

Isn't there some discrimination here?
Here and now 6:48pm on 27 Jan 2009 'They want a guarantee, as per Northern Ireland, that apprentices whose firms go bust will be caught in a state safety net.'

This is labour posturing.

If a company's going burst, they'll sack (oops make redundant) apprentices before it goes down, if this idea is taken on board.

Just one of these policies which would be a total waste of money. Typical labour, nothing constructive to offer.
