Climate change 7:04pm on 07 Dec 2009 I'm sure Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy will be delighted to take questions on any of the above next week (or mibbe no) - he is to hold a live webchat from Downing Street next Tuesday (15th) between 2 and 3pm to discuss plans for Scotland's constitutional future. He will go online to talk to members of the public about UK Government's plans to hand more powers to the Scottish Parliament. This is the latest in a series of webchats with ministers on the No 10 website. Questions can be submitted at www.webchat.number10.gov.uk

Coming home 2:58pm on 24 Nov 2009 "The final concert? Which has had to be scaled back? Great, superb, top of the range."
Mr Taylor might like to note that the Scots Trad Music Awards and Gala concert, (the Scottish traditional music scene pays tribute to those who work tirelessly for our culture) to be held in Dumfries on 28th November as part of the 'final' Homecoming weekend has been sold out for weeks (900 tickets). Why not mention that in the mix? My impression of the media coverage of the entire Homecoming event including the Gathering is that it has been sour and disgruntled and almost entirely negative. Yet the Gathering itself was an excellent event with many thousands of people from across the world attending. That it proved too much for a private company to fund? - certainly there are lessons to be learned. But, in terms of any other measurement, visitor numbers etc it was a huge success. I really wonder why those in the position to say or write positive things about our nation want only to to disparage effort and destroy the seeds of an event that could be good for the country. Scotland doesn't need to look elsewhere for enemies.
'Just say no' 10:25am on 22 Nov 2009 I hear that MSP Jack McConnell, erstwhile Scottish Labour First Minister, future Baron McConnell of Wishaw and High Commissioner to Malawi (in waiting), has decided that he will NOT retire at the next election but will again enter the fray in Motherwell & Wishaw.
Ah...the future had looked so rosy when he negotiated with Gordon Broon for all those rich rewards in return for stepping down as leader in favour of wee Wendy...

Glasgow North East by-election 10:23pm on 12 Nov 2009 Well, if it's Labour that gets it, it will surely be down to the postal votes. Apparently, there has been a remarkable increase in the numbers applying for them. It's a system open to abuse. I'm sure there's a lot more will be said about this aspect of the election in the coming hours.....
Who ya gonna call? 6:50pm on 11 Nov 2009 ...and from the same paper Tory MP Michael Gove "blasts SNP for playing a game of 'divide and rule'" . Dismissing the idea a Tory government with only a handful of Scottish MPs would have a questionable mandate north of the Border, he argues that 'Surrey has no Labour MPs but still works with the Gordon Brown government'

Gloomy news 11:50pm on 10 Nov 2009 Re when the BBC does a piece about the Glasgow North East by-election - at the end, when they are obligied to show a list of all the candidates, they give the British National Party and the Scottish National Party in the abbreviated form of 'BNP' and 'SNP'. I haven't noticed if they have been doing this with other parties ( Labour and Conservative aren't cut back) I don't believe an abbreviation is the correct way to display such important information. Not everyone watching would know what the abbreviation stands for. The BBC should give the participating individuals and the parties their proper names. If this gripe has already been mentioned elsewhere on the blog my apologies! I can only look in now and again:)
