Don't know what is happening in the USA, but in the UK a report (sorry, can't find it now) showed that over the past 5-10 years more people are going to mobile/cell phone only and dropping their landlines so they don't have to pay rental. Pay phones make it easier to budget and stay in touch, and are being used proportionately more by those on lower incomes.

This is not happening for those who want to have home broadband.

If the same thing is happening there, could it be affecting the polls?

Why women? Why not representatives of non-whites? Point to ponder, since there are a reasonable number of other-race or mixed race members of parliament, in both houses.

More to the point, property values can change rapidly in either direction.

Theoretically, property values in Scotland are more resilient than those in England at present, but this isn't being borne out by buyers at present.

Being taxed on changeable or relative values would demand a banding system.

That would just be council tax with a name change then?

Yup, I'm a prime example of someone living in a house which doesn't match my income. Not asking for sympathy - I had my eyes open and I love it here.

One pay rise in the last five years.

Come October and the change in national minimum wage, I'll earn a princely 7p per hour more than the minimum.

Yes, the house is on the market now, for totally unrelated family reasons.

Yes, OK, heard it many times. Think I'd rather be damned for doing something than for doing nothing but it ain't a-gonna happen.

Agree with threnodio's response, but there's no getting away from it that the UK's failure to do anything about Zimbabwe is a cause for great shame.

At the time of the build-up towards the Iraq invasion, a lot of people in the UK were asking why go into Iraq when Zimbabwe had been ignored for so long.

This continues.
