Like 'Hallo Goodbye' and isn't there some old crooner song with summit like "first they say they love you, then then they leave you.." in the lyrics? Have a great rest of weekend! Summer of love songs... 9:59pm on 14 Jul 2009 Really enjoyed the '67 or thereabouts tunes tonight. Though wondered about 2 things - "Flip the 4 tops coin", I thought GIO's precision engineering denied this type of thing. No complaints at all, but better not let Ms F hear about it. Also, not convinced that summer of love had a lot of resonance with black America: esp south of the Mason-Dixon line. But mebbe I'm on last week's power song vibe...
Next week's themes... 09:38am on 07 Jul 2009 Wednesday - OMG, just one night! There's enough from the civil rights movement to fill GIO for many,many more. How about "Abraham, Martin and John" from Marvin Gaye or "A Change is gonna come" from Sam Cooke. Or "Mississippi Goddamn" - Nina Simone. A bit older Billie Holliday's "Strange Fruit" is just haunting. And a (wee) bit newer - Neil Young's "Southern Man". Change the subject a bit - "Woman in chains" - Tears for Fears or "Sisters are doin' it for themselves" - Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin. And what about Eric Bogle's "No man's land". Does anyone believe a war will end wars?
