Chrome - first impressions 2:52pm on 03 Sep 2008 I've had good impressions from Google Chrome so far.

Those of you who are complaining about the lack of Firefox add-ons (or Firefox-style add-ons) (and I'm one of them), don't worry, because they will be there.... the backend of Chrome is made using the Firefox engine (Gecko) and the Safari engine (WebKit) which means that you may even be able to use your Firefox plugins or even Safari plugins (yep, Safari plugins exist!)

Also, because it is based on WebKit and Gecko it means that it is capable of rendering the pages in exactly the same way (therefore bypassing the complaints about "yet-another-browser-to-test", because if it works in Firefox and works in Safari then it'll be fine in Chrome).

Chrome has actually come out top for rendering pages. I've recently done a review where I applied various web tests (including the infamous acid tests) to Chrome, Firefox, Opera, Safari and Internet Explorer (using various operating systems). It's early days for Chrome at the moment, but as it's going to be open source and it uses WebKit and Gecko then you'll see some things shuffling from Chrome into Safari and Firefox (and vice-versa). Microsoft will also get a bit of a kick (because of competition) to update their browser so that it actually works.

Mac and Linux versions of Chrome should be out soon too. I look forward to it, even if I can see myself using Firefox for a lot longer.

Microformats and RDFa and RDF 10:57am on 25 Jun 2008 Hi Michael,

One option would be content negotiation.

If someone asks for:
* text/html: then give them (X)HTML with Microformats
* application/xhtml+xml: then give them XHTML+RDFa
* application/rdf+xml: then give them RDF/XML.

For testing (I'm sure you know this Michael, but for anyone else reading) this can be fetched for using curl, e.g. using your /programmes system and asking for rdf+xml:
curl -H "Accept: application/rdf+xml" http://bbc-programmes.dyndns.org/programmes/b009wxzy

I know that your system is capable of Content Negotiation, because if you don't specify then you get text/html. It is definitely possible to achieve this kind of working using OpenLink Virtuoso ( http://virtuoso.openlinksw.com/ ).

Do you think that Content Negotiation is a possibility Michael? Or might it not be worth it, because essentially it can all be sponged into whatever format of triples anyway?
