Injuries take their toll on England's lionheart 09:22am on 16 Jul 2009 Michael Vaughan and Andrew Flintoff have both shown vey silimar traits this summer, selfishness.Neither of them can let an Ashes series go by without making themselves the talking point.

Flintoff's record is poor and he is in the team more by reputation than by any recent form, even when not injured.

If any other bowler in world cricket had the ability to bowl fast and short but not takes wickets he would be derided by the press and fans in this country but "Freddie" is deemed to be indispensible.

The Ashes are special, as we are told every day on Sky, but Flintoff wants to be the main attraction. His retirement from real cricket should have been left for after the series and he can now go and earn the big bucks with his pal "KP" and Chris Gayle, another couple of selfish guys.
Bruising day of punch and counter-punch 08:58am on 09 Jul 2009 I enjoy the TMS coverage as well but it's not CMJ that makes me switch off by Boycott.

The joke is surely over now about how good his mother was at cricket and it looks like this summer he is going to give Nathan Hauritz the same abuse he gave Paul Harris last year. If somebody made the same comments on this page they would be removed. The man is a disgrace to broadcasting and the BBC.

I couldn't even excape him on 5live after the game as he constantly interrupted Aggers to talk about himself. As I went to switch the radio off things got worse as apparently Stephen Brenkley was due on the next part of the programme. Another man who knows everything and isn't afraid to tell us.
What now for cricket? 1:07pm on 04 Mar 2009 This is a tragic incident and the deaths of the police/security men should not be forgotten.

The phrase "life goes on" seems to be even more relevant to cricket as all the talk is about arranging "neutral" venues for Pakistan tests, with England immediately jumping in as the £ signs come to the forefront, and Pakistan unbelievably announcing a squad for a one day series in Bangladesh.

Maybe the whole of this planet thinks "life is cheap" as it seems money and cricket are much more important than human life or suffering.
Building for the future of football 4:27pm on 02 Mar 2009 The indoor pitch looks fantastic but I wonder how much it will be to hire.

I run a Sunday amateur team and we have to pay astronomical amounts of money for pitches which are "all weather".

As soon as you become an adult (my team are teens to late twenties) the cost for facilities is cripling.

By all means build super centre but let's have reasonable prices.
A new approach to football columns 09:43am on 26 Sep 2008 I think Gavin Strachan is a very welcome addition to the blogs.

It will be very interesting to read the thoughts of a player who is playing for the love of the game not the money and fame.

There is a tremendous amount of interest in football outside the Premiership, Scottish Premier League and the over the top Championship.

I can't stand it when Blowers is on as the cricket seems secondary to any nonsense that comes into his head. He seems to have become a parody of himself.

As for Geoff Boycott. I had to turn the radio off the other day when he was on as his constant criticism of whatever takes his fancy is too much to listen to.

His worst criticism has been of Paul Harris (can't bat, joke bowler etc) was a disgrace and you have to feel for any of his family who may have had the misfortune to listen to the programme from South Africa.

Surely he is there to give balanced opinions not just criticism.

I would always keep Aggers, CMJ, Simon Mann and Kevin Howells as they seem to have a love of the game. And as summarisers Vic and Gus who are good guys who give good insite.

In general keep up the work.
Lack of runs costs emotional Vaughan 12:05pm on 04 Aug 2008 Vauaghan was a decent captain but it is typically small minded of people to elevate his status because England beat Australia in 2005.
If England's record against all other countries was better then the team might have a higher position in the rankings. Beating Australia doesn't make you champions of the world.
I have said before that England's problem is that they can't play a test match without having the Ashes in mind. This is totally disrespectful to their opponents, and the usual arrogance associated with the current team.
A solution to England's problems might be to scrap the Central Contracts and force players to play for their places through the county system. One of the reasons that England are so inept at ODI's is that the players never play the game for their counties. Same goes for 20/20 as well.
For the Oval test why not get rid of the underperformers and pick a new team all together.

Frail batting costs England again 00:22am on 31 Jul 2008 Aggers, I love the idea that Vaughan can't be judged on form because he was out first ball but surely his place must be in jeopardy.
If you don't score runs you don't deserve your place and both Vaughan and Collingwood are not doing that therefore shouldn't be in the team.
Pieterson and Bell should also be looked at as they both seem to have done enough in the First Test to think they can keep their places. Mind you in this Enlgland team batsman seem untouchable.
It is about time that England forgot about future exhibition games and the Ashes in 2009, no team will be the best team in the world by simply beating Australia, despite what the team and the press might think.
Play for today and pick the best team should be the thinking but unfortunately the selectors are as arrogant as the current crop of so called test players.
Flintoff casts shadow on England 4:35pm on 09 Jul 2008 Would it not be a good idea for England to try and build on a winning side by making it stronger ?
It is so easy to just keep the same side and Geoff Miller's term has come up with no changes at any time.
Surely either Bell or Collingwood, or both, should have been left out and possibly Shah brought in. There is even a case for Bopara to come in as well.
As for the bowling, do the selectors really believe that Anderson, Sidebottom and Broad are up to the task of dismissing a far superior batting line up to NZ twice ?
It seems that Geoff Miller has gone down the same old line that David Graveney did by deciding that he will ignore all the opinions of former players and continue to pick players regardless of form.
As ever with the England set up, it's harder to get out of it than to get in.
Low-scoring games can be fascinating 12:39pm on 22 Jun 2008 Is it not about time people got things into perspective.
New Zealand played well yesterday, with Grant Elliott playing an excellent innings which gave Kyle Mills the chance to hit freely at the end.
England should be 2-1 down and are still as unpredictable as ever, expecially against teams who know how to play the game properly and dont think they are superstars.
Luke Wright came out with a ridiculous comment about how England are due a big win and the Champions Trophy is their aim. This when the NZ is still alive and South Africa, the number one ranked one day side, haven't even arrived yet.
This squad is so full of its own self importance it is frightening and I am sure that Kevin Pietersen making comments on every cricketing matter doesn't help.
There is a superiority complex with this team which is unhealthy and, just think, in a year's time they will be wearing their new fangled "football tops" and earning obscene amounts of money in relation to their talent.
I love cricket but it has long lost its dignity and even TMS seems to have gone down the line that games are boring if there aren't boundries being hit all the time. I am surprised they didn't sign off yesterday when Brendon McCullum got out.
