Dear friend comments like yours do nothing but stir up racial antagonism, they do not encourage peace.

If you really have China's interests at heart then you will think of more than just "racial scuffling" when you hear about the Free Tibet camapign.

We want all of China to be at peace. China is a great country and has much to celebrate. I personally have a great fondness for the Chinese people.

Rather than being afraid of cultural diversity and religious freedom, China should embrace and celebrate such issues. In doing so it's greatness will be magnified beyond conception.

And re comment 47.
You should do some homework ... look up October 7 1950 when the PLA illegally invaded Tibet...

Regards rights, Channel 4 in the UK aired a documentary called Dispatches Undercover in Tibet...I suggest you hve a look at it and then re-think your comments.

Just one purely logical question...
If the Tibetan people are enjoying such freedom then why has the Tibetan population not increased at all in the last number of years?

Seems odd doesn't it.

Throughout the entire world populations are expanding at an alarming rate...but not in Tibet.

If you don't believe me then do your homework.

I hope that you hizento and that you too rrrrzzzz will be lighting a candle for Tibet on Saturday the 23rd of August at 9pm.
In doing so you also will be helping China.

Will you and the other international reporters, public and guests in Beijing be lighting a Candle for Tibet on Saturday the 23rd of August at 9pm?

This is a very peaceful way of bringing attention to the Tibetan Situation without causing offence or doing anything illegal.

There is a web site but it againt house rules for me to print it so I trust that if you are interested you will find it yourself.

James, a change for the better in Tibet will only result from a change of attitude by the Chinese Government.

What we must understand is that such a change would not only have great benefits for Tibetans but would also benefit all people living in China (ethnic Chinese and minority groups). Your blog site has clearly demonstrated that there is much need for change in China.

Clearly therefor promoting a Free Tibet cannot in any way be construed as being anti-Chinese.

The fireworks....Who cares about the fireworks...are we really that surprised?
8th of the 8th, 2008 08:12am on 08 Aug 2008 I support the Dalai Lama as He wishes China and the Chinese people all the best with the Olympic Games.
I also support the Dalai Lama in His endeavours to bring peace and freedom to the Tibetan people living in Tibet.
I hope that in hosting these Games, China will see the need to make changes necessary in the eyes of the Western World, to meet basic Human Rights Standards.

To quote the Tibetan Solidarity Committee:

"In view of the ongoing critical situation inside Tibet, we urge the United Nations and the International community and organizations to the following urgent needs:

To immediately send an independent international fact-finding mission into Tibet

Olympic evictions 11:10am on 21 Jul 2008 This type of bullying behaviour is absolutely disgusting and if that is the way the Chinese government treat their own people, it is not surprising that they treat their minority populations such as the Tibetan people living in Tibet, in an even more disgusting manner.

We must be careful however when viewing images, such as this eviction, not to demonise the Chinese government or the Chinese people.

The Chinese are beautiful people and their culture is likewise beautiful. The Chinese government itself is not 100% bad, it has come a long way since the cultural revolution and is still in the process of change.

Certainly a number of the policies/actions of the Chinese Government break international human rights laws, but so do the policies/actions of many Western Governments.

Sadly even such incidents of individual bullying and hooliganism are common throughout the world...they are not unique to China.

Nevertheless, I am glad that the international community is now becomming more aware of such human rights abuses...however it's not enough just to read about these events and be horrrified.

If you are truly outraged then be active and do something about it, lobby your governmnet or get involved in human rights movements. Certainly in terms of China there is no time like the present.
Pollution problem 11:50am on 15 Jul 2008 My concern here is not the Olympics. I am shocked to read the data provided by James concerning how high the pollution levels are in Beijing and am seriously concerned about the health effect this must have on the Beijing public.

Are the Chinese people living/working in Beijing aware of how high and unacceptable these pollution levels are?

Are the Chinese people living/working in Beijing able to do anything such as lobby their government to do something to rectify this situation....not just for the Olympics too keep all of us Westerners happy but for the sake of themselves and their children?

Economic boom at what cost!
Capping emissions? 04:28am on 10 Jul 2008 There is no doubt that China should cap it's emissions.
This point should not be taken personally by any Chinese.
China is not being blamed or singled out, certainly not in my mind anyway, but has a responsibility to fulfil along with the rest of the world.
I find it hard to understand why James's article on these greenhouse gass emissions is offensive to so many people. It is simply a statement of fact and James has the readings to prove it.
We all have a responsibility to improve the state of our planet, China is no different. If we don't work to save our planet then we will lose it. It's that simple.
Stop taking things so personally and look at the bigger picture. To act otherwise is simply narrow minded and selfish.
Bush at the Olympics 7:12pm on 05 Jul 2008 China is hosting this years Olympic games...
This means a lot to many Chinese people...
China has a shocking human rights record...
This means a lot to many Chinese people...

These are indisputable facts.

I believe that the position His Holiness the Dalai Lama of Tibet, the world's most famous refugee has taken to this situation is the most helpful.

He has asked the international community to support Beijing's Olympics, to create harmony and show good will, as this is the only way to bring about peace, both internationally and between China and Tibet. At all times he urges us to show Loving Kindness and Forgiveness to all of our fellow citizens.

At the same time however as global citizens we have a moral obligation to speak out about any crimes against humanity...regardless of which country they are occurring in, regardless of whether that country is holding the Olympics or not.

I follow the wisdom of His Holiness's teachings. I love the Chinese people, many are my best friends, I wish them all the best with their Olympic Games. At the same time I urge the Global community and International leaders to put pressure, not on the Chinese people, but on their government who are responsible for many human rights abuses including their illegal occupation and continued brutal suppression of the Tibetan people, their religion and their culture.

The Chinese Government can no longer hide behind "smoke screens" and say that all is well in Tibet, this tact is not working any longer and is only bringing further shame to the Chinese government.

While without doubt we appreciate that this current government is much better than previous Chinese governments, and we applaud all the positive changes which have been made by this government, these changes nevertheless make no difference to those individuals who now live under intolerable oppression in areas of China and in Tibet.

So my Chinese brothers and sisters, "Good luck with your Olympics". And to my brothers and sisters in the Chinese Government "Please open your hearts to your Tibetan brothers and sisters. This will not weaken your power but bring you international respect and acclaim... more than you can imagine. Please, please grant "GENUINE AUTONOMY" to Tibet and please join with us in the global community and fight for human rights and world peace".

China is a great and powerful country and has much to offer us as we do them. Let's join together and work together in the spirit of peace for all of humanity.
Made In China 00:42am on 26 Jun 2008 For moral reasons I try to aviod buying products which are made by low paid workers, regardless of the country. With so many products being made in China this is a difficult task however I try. I think that the global community has a moral obligation to fellow citizens to look after their well being. If we promote a wrong act, in any way, then we are sanctioning that act. I'm quite sure that if we all attempted to boycot buying products made by underpaid workers, such as those in China, then that situation would have to change. It would take massive affort on our part though and the question is are we up to it? If yes however then the old saying goes "necessity is the mother of invention", such a system not supported by the global economy would not survive and would have to change.
