News on the go 12:22pm on 27 Nov 2008 One big problem I have with the BBC Mobile website is that the content is so restrictive. Especially as my Nokia N95 has the ability to render full BBC web pages, especially when connected by broadband why not provide an option to view the full BBC website.

As an example I saw a headline on twitter from bbcbreaking and clicked on the link. Now because I was in France it took me to the international web only front page and for the life of me I couldn't find an option to view eiither the full site or a UK page.

Incidentally, the bbcbreaking twitter feed is a great way of getting headlines, just the right balance of really important/interesting stuff.
Flickr on TV 5:10pm on 15 Jul 2008 I really like this; I think what you're saying is that these kind of features will lead to broadcasters being able to start to provide hybrid services. So if I had a set top box with an internet connection available. The BBC might be able to provide iPlayer over IP to my TV rather than having to use my PC, this is exciting because it breaks the broastcast -> TV link. It means that broadcasters can start to provide much more individal content over the IP connection.

If broadcasters were to start using these featutres, then I expect the set top box manufactureres (and TV manuafacturersw) may well start to produce set top boxes with with IP connection's built in, no doubt including wireless versions at a premium price. Although a lot of people will already have connections for X-Boxes or Playstations..
What a lot of waste... 12:50pm on 07 Jul 2008 @laughingmarmalade - I agree with you about sell before dates.

If food is frozen then it will be safe to eat long after the best before date. (although it may not be at it's best)

Yogurt is normally fine for well after a month after the stated date.

I'm a little more careful about meat but if it's within 1 or 2 days of the date, smells okay and then cooked properly then it's probably fine.

Although complaining about supermarkets who trash stuff because of things like a fridge failure seems to be wrong, they have stringint rules in place to keep people safe, if they didn't trash suspect food and hundreds of people got ill then they would be in a lot of trouble, so in some cases waste is unavoidable.

Updates, then headlines only seem to update when I switch tabs, from News -> Sport -> News to see the new news headlines. The last updated text seems to update fine.

Memory usage: This seems high 246M of virtual RAM.

I lost my internet connection yesterday and the memory requirements rose to over a Gig of RAM before I killed the connection.

My open problem is that I don't get the transparent outline around the widget, all I get is a big black box. But I think that's an AIR problem rather than a Bug in the widget.

It's good to see the choice of a cross platform tool so this is available for all users from the start.
Ever fancied popcorn but only had 4 phones and no kitchen appliances?? 4:53pm on 23 Jun 2008 clearly this isn't real. Mobile phones don't have anything like enough power to do this.

Having said that I#m not sure how they made the video!
Testing Linux Ubuntu 12:47pm on 20 Jun 2008 It seems that you got on fairly well. The main thing about linux hardware drivers is that they either work out the box or it's really difficult. However with the number of users now using linux it's probable that more and more hardware manufacturers will support linux.

For uploading to Flickr, if you use the excellent F-Spot photo management software that is installed by default by ubuntu, then you would have found that it comes with the option to upload to Flickr, without having to install any additional software!

I think your conclusion is fair, linux still has some way to go to hit usability parity with Windows or Macs, however at the current rate of progress I don't think it will be long, given that just a few years ago the command line was needed to simply access a CD.

Also, as more and more of what we do using computers moves online the operating system of your computer will become less and less relevant and this can only be a good thing.
