In other news, the International Journal of Climateology finally reported what everyone except Richard Black has known for a long time - they do NOT provide supporting data for their papers to anyone who wishes to examine their conclusions. They claim the peer review by friends is all the checking that is needed.

In practice this means that anyone who doubts climate change scare stories will not be provided with the means to check them.

"IE provides more flexibility and compatibility than other browsers. Sure it has flaws but all software has flaws."

Opera http://www.opera.com/download/ is the browser which follows Web standards most closely. It is the top scorer in the Acid3 standards test.

However, Microsoft break web standards to try and force people to follow their proprietry way of doing things, as defined in IE. If you find a site which Opera cannot view correctly, there is a button you can press on the screen which reports the site to Opera staff, who will check it, and try to get the site owner to re-write the site in accordance with agreed standards.

Go back to Opera, the fastest and most standards-compliant browser (which invented tabbed browsing), and USE THAT BUTTON!

Global temperatures peaked in 1998, and have been falling ever since. They have now dropped down to the level they were at in 1990. The hypothesis that extra CO2 causes warming is well and truly disproven.

How can the BBC continue to ignore this?
Wikipedia is censored 3:40pm on 10 Dec 2008 The funny thing here is that, according to current law, the IWF were right to ban the image. It is clearly a level 1 image according to the Act.

What we have here is NOT a mistake by the IWF. It is more fundamental than that, it is a mistake with the law.

We all know that our lives have been made miserable and oppressive by this current government's nanny-state legislation. Here is one of the few instances when the people (in practice the compter techies) have risen up and said "We won't stand for it!". And the state has folded.

In France they refuse to accept oppressive legislation. We should do this more often in Britain...

Umm...We would hope it would be examined and if necessary a charge brought by the police. The perpetrator would then have a day in court where an independent judiciary would consider whether a crime had been committed.

That is what is wrong here. Mdwh seems to be of the common opinion that child porn is a crime where to be accused is the same as being guilty, and that normal judicial procedures should be suspended for it. This is a common and very dangerous belief.

A major feature of the Wiki is that it is built by anonymous editors from around the world, thus providing a true indication of what people think about a topic. This obviously leaves Wiki articles open to vandalism, so the Wiki team operate a vandal ban based on the IP addresses of submitters, which stops the few spoilers ruining the whole encyclopedia.

The IWF censorship works by directing all calls to the wiki through a single censoring point - this means that all editors will have the same IP address. So the Wiki vandal ban now applies to ALL the UK. Try to edit a wiki page, and you will be rejected.

I was contributing to a discussion on T H Lawrence on Friday night, when I suddenly lost the page I was editing. Nice one, IWF!

This record cover is NOT child porn. It may be indecent and tasteless, depending on your taste, but it is obviously nothing to do with child abuse. The unelected and unanswerable IWF have made a huge mistake here.

If we can make enough of a protest about this maybe we can slow down the inevitable collapse of our culture into an opressive state-directed tyranny....

If you cannot tell the difference between a leak which endangers British national interests and a leak which exposes incompetence in high office, then I suggest that you resign your position as chief BBC political commentator and make way for someone who does understand these nuances...

Are you really saying that you needed someone to tell you about those words - some of the most famous in our parliamentary history, and ones which are (or were, given modern educational practice) taught to every child in the land?

And you work as a senior POLITICAL comentator for the BBC? Do you need reminding about what Charles I said just before this response? Something about the birds flying...?
The Bin Laden Question 2:38pm on 26 Oct 2008 Umm.. As I recall, it was well understood before the Iraq war that using major military force against terrorists results in them expanding their influence. In fact, this has been documented in standard texts since the 1960s.

So your discussions about whether to operate a sane anti-terrorist policy now are welcome, but about a decade too late.

The question which occupies my mind is why, knowing that an attack on Iraq would create this appallingly unsafe and opressive world, did the security services and advisors of western governments support it as they did? Could it be that, after the end of the cold war, they saw a possible future with no work?
