Spot the difference 3:43pm on 23 Nov 2009 It's all become a load of gobbly gook. It's not what you say it's the way that you say it....

And Yes! We can expect loads more double dutch and gobbly gook in the next few months. Just as long as you don't take any of it too seriously and trust your own judgement

So one has the IMF on his side but their record hasn't been too good in this recession so can't take anything that they say as read. They obviously don't have enough cash to bale us out.

Now that once again the Great has been taken out of Britain by labour as it was in the seventies those responsible for it are not those to sort it out.
Tories tweaking their message 2:54pm on 23 Nov 2009 Visiting a newly opened shopping mall yesterday I could see where the growth will come from in the last quarter.

Loads of new shops filled to the brim with Chinese tat. Lots of glitz and bling. I did try hard to find goods made in this country but sadly was unsuccessful.

So nothing has changed. We inport most of what we are now forced to buy.

Even worse we are now printing money to pay for it. So where will it end?

Talk of recovery is temporary while they try to suck out as much of our money as they can for the next couple of months.

All parties are now trying to tone the bad news down for no-one wants to hear it. Too depressing for most to handle.

This is what comes of a recession that is artificially repressed. It just goes on and on. It's only bought time but that time is running out.
Reasons to be careful 1:29pm on 23 Nov 2009 Whether it ends up as a hung parliament or a Tory win the most important thing is that the public are not mislead into voting in a labour government for another five years.

A new administration is essential to root out the hidden problems which we all know are there but this labour government dare not tell us.

Most people have short memories and are too busy trying to get by on a day to day basis and don't really want to know that it will be even worse down the line.

However I forced myself to listen to Gordon Brown speaking at the the CBI conference just in case he may be looking at a U turn that would turn farce into realism but there was none just more of the same.

However there was one thing he said that shouted out loud.

Appealing to China to invest more here in business. Perhaps he needs to get of the bunker and find out what is happening elsewhere in the world.
When China tried to take over large companies in Australia they insisted on bringing Chinese cheap labour with them to fill all vacancies.

Australia blocked this so is that really what Gordon Brown is seeking for this country? The next election will be make or break for the lot of us.
Rare earth: The New Great Game 3:52pm on 19 Nov 2009 Yet another excellent and thought provoking article not to be read by the faint-hearted.

We have to admire the way China has been able to manipulate the greed of the west without them even noticing.

While the west was trying to promote their brand of democracy across the Middle East to try to manipulate oil supplies China was way ahead of the curve and looking at ways of exploiting the west's incessant greed and involvement in two long wars. They were saving and lending their money instead of blowing it on armaments. They were buying up as much as they could of the earth's valuable and decreasing resources.

While the west was bringing in never ending laws on how to make it more difficult for businesses to trade and make profit by employing people China was welcoming them in with a never ending supply of cheap labour without any human rights or employment protection.

How could politicians in the west have been so shortsighted?

Frightening to think that it has only taken about ten years for the west to go bankrupt and China to hold all the ace cards.

Where do we go from here is the question everyone should be asking for can the west really be subservient to China whilst they hold a huge stockpile of nuclear weapons?

Perhaps it's something people are best not thinking about.
If you thought it was all over... 2:14pm on 19 Nov 2009 Perhaps instead of an seeing all dancing job as President of Europe Mr Blair's talents would be better served as the foreign minister with the portfolio of getting NATO out of Afghanistan in time for Obama to not to have to hand the war over to his successor.

Still a very important role probably more so than being President
and if successful he could have the Presidents job next time around.

No one would argue with that arrangement. I'm sure all his friends in the US would be delirious at the thought. So would we.

This would not be a bad thing for the country is in such a bad place many unpopular measures will have to be implemented to put it on the right track.

As Obama has just stated he would not wish to leave the war to his successor. Only because he now knows that he is now held responsible for his predecessors terrible mistakes. The same goes for the economy in the US.

Cameron too would be held accountable for sorting out Brown's scorched earth policy but leading a hung parliament he would be able to work with the best of all parties. Sorting out the country would be a combined effort. This would be more acceptable to the voters for they would then be reassured that the harsh measures taken were totally necessary.

A hung parliament would only be a temporary measure until the country was back on track.

Any other time I would cringe at the idea but because I think that the worst is still to come this time around it has a lot of merit.
Not the Queen's Speech 4:31pm on 18 Nov 2009 Both Cameron and Clegg gave excellent speeches today and both gave Brown the opportunity to answer why he appears reluctant to go ahead with reform of expenses.

Cameron even gave him the opportunity by giving way so he could reply but Brown reused to get up.

Nothing else Brown said after that had any credibility for if he cannot clean up the commons by endorsing a report that the other two parties and many of his own fully accept how can he ever be taken seriously again.

For Brown that in itself has to be THE END
Afghanistan ifs and maybes 1:35pm on 18 Nov 2009 Obama states he does not want to leave the legacy of the war in Afghanistan to his successor. Either he thinks he'll get a second term which gives him about seven years to get out altogether or he considers three years of his first term long enough.

I wonder what Brown has to say about that. Does he intend to leave the Afghanistan war to his successor?
Not the Queen's Speech 1:07pm on 18 Nov 2009 It was too much to see Her Majesty going through the splendid ceremony of the opening of parliament and then hearing her read a speech that appeared to have been written on the back of a stamp.

Much ado about nothing unfortunately.
Afghanistan ifs and maybes 2:23pm on 17 Nov 2009 Have we been convinced by Brown and Milliband who are trying to save their political necks by their feeble attempts to pursuade us that they and they alone know what to do with Afghanistan.

Knowing what they would like to see happen and how they need to go about making it happen are poles apart.

They're in big trouble and they know it. Afghanistan was ignored for years by Blair and Bush which gave the enemy lots of time to regroup.

And regroup they have on a very effective scale which makes the job in Afghanistan much more difficult now than it was when we first went in.

Not only that but the insistence that Musharef step down in Pakistan in favour of a so called democracy has opened up an even worse scenario there. It is turning into civil war on both sides of the Afghan/ Pakistan border.

Foreign troops are making the situation worse by their continued presence and if they do not come out soon the whole thing could escalate across the Middle East.

I'm sure that is what Obama and his advisors are really discussing and Brown and Milliband trying to gain some elctoral advantage by pretending all will be well if we leave it to them is farcical.
