Changes to international pages (3) 05:49am on 28 Jun 2009 I can grudgingly accept the need for adverts on the international page (I live in the US), especially the videos--but could you dispense with the leading advert into the one-minute news summary? Surely it isn't essential, and having 15-30s of nothing appears to defeat the whole purpose of having the one-minute summary: quick and convenient.
Stop the blocking now 6:05pm on 14 Jun 2009 Very disturbing to learn. If the government truly believes it is legitimate, why is it accosting the free press for reporting the facts? The fact that mass civil unrest has been touched off by the electoral result should not be suppressed, especially if the government truly feels it is the duly chosen voice of the people.

Kudos to John Simpson and his team for their journalistic bravery--and for getting the truth out.

I'll be "quite American" about it and say I found the BBC's coverage spot-on and a welcome relief from the glitzy gimmicks on CNN and MSNBC. It was a bit pedestrian at times, but unlike almost any of the US MSM, the BBC have a global audience to reach, and they tried very hard to make sense out of what is certainly a complicated event for any media outlet.

Kudos to the BBC for pulling off the best coverage of the election online--it was a class act.

This was a wonderful concept that got beautiful execution (the bits we in the States can see, anyway). The segments on air traffic control and the night lights were sophisticated and refined--just what we Americans tune into the BBC to see/hear. Please make more available eventually for those of us living elsewhere!
BBC on a bus and box road trip 05:29am on 13 Sep 2008 I think World Service is funded entirely by advertising and grant-in-aid voted by the Parliament...right?

Our country is certainly very glad to welcome the BBC Bus on its trip across our nation; I hope America treats you with respect and hospitality, and I'm sure we are honored by the immense attention being given our little electoral ritual by the eyes of the world.

The BBC Box is an interesting concept: globalization is a real challenge for college students to grasp--it would be great if the BBC were to eventually collaborate with a publisher to put out some educational material from the experiences with the Box.
Up against the weather 00:54am on 03 Sep 2008 And I haven't heard ANY United States media network devote more than ten seconds at the most to the catastrophic flooding in Bihar Province, India--an event UNICEF and others say is rapidly becoming a humanitarian disaster. If not for the BBC, I seriously doubt there would be a single major news agency available in the United States even covering Bihar.

Living in Houston, I'll quickly say I appreciated the emphasis the BBC gave Gustav. That was, at the time, the top story, and I don't think anyone who chose to focus on Gustav instead of the convention (including the RNC itself) should be condemned for their choice.

And about the U.S. media's obsession with extreme weather: I think the editors are spot on. There are several--notably on the Weather Channel--who seem almost disappointed that Gustav DIDN'T strike New Orleans. In all honesty, the BBC is really the only news agency that seemed to breathe a sigh of relief after Gustav passed both New Orleans and Houston by without causing catastrophic damage.
