Liu Xiang out 5:43pm on 18 Aug 2008 All I can say is that my heart goes to Liu who has my sympathy.He bares on his shoulders too many hopes and expectations that Chinese people have on him.Of course, that's too much, especially when it's all on one man.It'll be a lifelong pity for him for not being able to compete on his motherland's soil even if he could regain his past glory,but still he will be the hero of China.It's quite unfair to lay all the blame on him though it just occured on such a critical moment. Well, it doesn't matter, Liu!Just pick up the pieces and hit the road again! I believe that the eyes of the world will be on you again in 2012.
Staying in power 5:25pm on 18 Aug 2008 As far as I am concerned, James just proceeded from an comparatively objective perspective to give an analysis on the current political situation of China.That's more or less what CCP is doing right at the moment,which proves to be very efficient. However, I want to teach freeqind a good lesson. I'm totally furious at your ignorant and insulting remarks on the late chairman Mao!Who do you think you are!What position are you in to have thrown your vicious spell in this way!You know what, cursing Chairman Mao's body just amounts to calling a celebrity in your country a big idiot! And you said that Chinese government ignores people who constantly suffer from floods and earthquakes.Sheer nonsense!Do you know how hard it is to govern a vast country with a huge population?How can you make sure that all citizens are equally treated?This is technologically unmanagable everywhere on this planet.I bet that you would soon beat retreat if you were to be elected mayor or provincial governor in China and work for several years' tenure,because it wouldn't be long before you discovered the fact that Western rules never apply to China due to the tremendous historical and cultural gaps.So, man, watch your mouth next time and attach more attention to your country,one that cannot be flawless!

But whatever it might turn out to be, I assert China's authority over Tibet, an integral part of the country.So, if the pro-Tibet group consists mainly of Tibetan natives or Westerners, they have my sympathy,for ethnic disputes are inevitable and foreigners(I wonder how many of them have ever been to Tibet and know what's going on there) tend to be duped into helping those separitists gain independence.But, if they are Han Chinese or other minorities, what they did just amounts to cutting their own throat.They are condemned to be prosecuted for treason!
Learning to slam dunk 2:43pm on 14 Aug 2008 Learning to slam dunk?You'd better say this to Britain,who has long remained silent on the basketball court.And I wonder whether Britain has her own national basketball team!Just a look at her neighbours,to name a few here, France, Germany and Spain, and it's not difficult to find that Britain is way behind other European countries in this game.I don't know what excuses can Britain find for her weakness in this field.What's worse, I could hardly see any British natives(white people) who have made their names internatioanally as popular basketall stars. Obviously, it's a huge shame that Britain is outshined by his European counterparts in terms of basketball!As for China, well, to slam dunk is never a problem!We'll see more in the future,and Yao's accession into the NBA is merely a start.But I still see no hope in the prospects of Britain's basketball------
8th of the 8th, 2008 09:20am on 08 Aug 2008 Actually, I don't think there is any note of disrespect or offence in China's opposition to Bush's comments on the so-called religious freedom and human rights. Anyway, President Bush is not to blame for what he said, for he'll be in Beijing on behalf of his country, not himself. And as a politician, you 'll have to wear a mask of finesse, wielding skilful dipliomacy. Or rather, you are simply not ypurself when you get involved in politics. What's more, it's really not strange to hear such remarks made by a Western leader, the US in particular, even right before the Olympics. Here, I just want to shed some light to the truth concealed in the shadow.That is, no country on this planet can fully pledge religious freedom if it poses a threat to stability and prosperity.As for human rights, well, it's a topic that the West frequently uses to criticise China, I just can say that we differ a lot on the way we see human rights and I wonder why the West always picks on China even though tremendous progress has been made in this field.And once again, no country in the world keeps a better human rights record!Anyway, BJ Olympics will turn out to be a huge success and I wish President Bush to have a good time in China.

I don't think the danger has been overestimated. A fellow classmate of mine from Urumqi has confirmed to me that this terrorist group does pose a severe threat to local security and development,commiting arson and murder during those critical times.The reason might, as far as I can gather, boil down to their desire to establish an independent Islamic nation.You mentioned that the general public(you included)know little about this organisation,that's because they are not strong enough to call the attention of the whole nation.Anyway,considering China's size,XJ lies in the far west of China,way beyond our reach,despite the convenience of modern telecommunication and transportation. As it stays remote from us living in other parts of the country,how can you expect us to know exactly what it is!But I know that the govenment has long been keeping an eye on this organisation,trying to prevent anything devastating from happening,as the organisation's sordid deeds have been put on record. In recent years, we commoners are also very much concerned about how things are going there in XJ, especially as the Olympics are drawing near. Had my fellow guy not told me about the story, I wouldn't believe that things could have been that bad. To conclude, it really doesn't matter whether the details provided by the Chinese government are true or not, what does count is that our security should be ensured and social order be stable.

You have the right to say what you want to say, but do please remember that you are still in a mode typically shaped by Anglo-Saxon,or rather, western culture, which somehow prevents you from getting a clear picture of what's behind the truth. To be in fairness, you can hardly think the way Chinese think. Just compare the size and population of even the whole Europe and China, and you will see how difficult it is to manage so huge a nation with such a great number of people politically and economically. Imbued with a cultural heritage in terms of traditions and customs,China has little in common with the Western World in many aspects. As a foreigner, especially a westerner, you can never successfully probe into the inner world of Chinese or get even an inkling of what they really bear in mind. Don't jump to conclusion in a westerner's point of view and don't be so sarcastic with well-shielded blame. True is the fact that it is both theoratically and practically unmanagable to bridge the cultural gap, yet I still hope that some sort of objective views can be aired next time I am here. Lastly, I want you to know that the eyes somtimes cheat!
