Should we be afraid of not being afraid? 4:56pm on 18 Feb 2009 The interesting thing is that we are actually in a warm periode between ice ages, and on is likely to start GEOLOGICALLY soon, so about 10-50 thousand years. This however doesn't mean we shouldn't avoid killing ourselves with heat death in the mean time. However I think it might be convenient that we'll have figured out how to manipulate the climat before the next ice age.
It was only a matter of time before we have to figure out how to manipulate the global climat or die in large numbers...
Makes carbon capture and storage leave a different light doesn't it? I know I'd like to know where the tap to the billion ton CO2 storage is when the ice age hits...
Germany's love of coal 6:05pm on 29 Sep 2008 Theres about 200 years worth at present rate of consumption- thats not a problem at all. Clean coal (carbon capture) is overall a good idear though. We ARE heading for an ice age in the next 10.000 years so I'd like to have a swithch to turn up the heat somewhere when that happens...... provided of course we don't die of heat in the mean time.
A serious summit 12:31pm on 01 Sep 2008 We can hardly ruin our own an Russias economic future until we actually know what the was going on. Until we actually KNOW if the Georgian military were shooting a civilians- which we can't find out because of the Russian troops in the area. But honestly at the moment there isn't anyone left in the two breakaway provinces who WANTS to be part of Georgia- So my personal suggestion would be- hard talk- low sanctions- push for a referendum (with your pre-war address counting for your votes placement) for the future borders of of Georgia- under international supervision not Russian. And of course give the Ukraine some guarantees of safety pretty soon.

This event is done- we can't undo it and sanctions would make the situation worse- but we should make sure it doesn't set a precedence. Of course there isn't anything that we can do about Russia reacquisition plans if they go for the central asian nations- they are just geographically wrongly placed.
Republicans in trouble 2:58pm on 14 Jun 2008 Calling fox news a fair and unbiased new provider would be a ballant lie- the coverage i obviously biased- and yes a democratic spokesman did call fox news the most unbiased for coverage of THE DEMOCTRATIC PRIMARIES- for which a heavily nationalistic/republican channel would obviously not have a bias- it's not their area of interest. But honestly what I have seen of their news coverage is not actually news. Oh they do sprout a few facts but otherwise it's a bunch of biased talking discussions, with people who are as often as not obviously NOT qualified to comment what they are talking about. You do not get comments exclusively from a conservative blogger when commenting a conflict between two parties- you do not get a Master-Sergant to comment the situation in Iraq and how to solve it- why? because one will obviously not badmouth themselves, and the other does not have the clearance, intelligence (no I'm not calling him stupid- it's as in information) or for that matter training to properly comment the situation- a sergeant is not trained in the large scale reality of running a war or the strategy- He would be perfect for commenting on how the troops are doing on the ground- if supply is good enough and so on- but that was not the premise. Then there was a piece of nonsense about some girl who had raised a few 100 bucks for charity- at a time when several allied soldiers had died in Afghanistan and there was a general election in one of your larger allied countries. Fox news is not news its a verification of ignorance, propaganda, and a feel-good way of closing your eyes to the world. The fact that it is the primary source of news for many Americans just makes me sad. Just because many people make a mistake it's not make it right.
