I think in US law (as in England) there is a difference between libel and slander. In Scots law, as in other jurisdictions that base themselves on the civil law tradition, there is no distinction between libel and slander, and all cases are simply "defamation". (as a 'furriner' you are excused for using the language of your own legal system. Any Scots above who used the term "libel" should bury their heads in shame!) :-)
The clear defence against any charge of defamation is "veritas" - you are under no risk!
You might like to reflect on that statement and your earlier "all too often historians only THINK they know what is likely" to me.
What is "truth", whose "truth" is it? Do you KNOW, while historians only THINK they know?
Your country already has independence from the UK. I want independence for mine. I don't mind if you are annoyed by my moderate pro-independence stance. My concern is only to persuade my fellow voters in Scotland.
