Off the ball? 7:36pm on 12 Nov 2008 FIFA have had to step in to stop governments in other countries crossing the line in dealing with footballing associations. This situation should be no different. Back off Murphy.

The fact is, party politics aside, the Tartan army has no interest in this Team GB malarky and if England want to put a team in and call it GB then thats up to them. But the idea that Scotland must contribute or be a part is a joke.

We can't be giving ANY other nation a reason to question why the UK gets to have 4 national teams. It would only take one incident for some countries who dont like the idea (maybe claiming it gives the "UK" an unfair advantage) of there being 4 home nations to start causing a stir.

I dont get how Jim Murphy can be a football fan and not see how this is not just a bad idea, its a potential vote loser in Scotland. Football before politics!
Glow or gloom 08:21am on 22 Oct 2008 As an SNP supporter, I sadly think Labour are pretty safe here for the by election. I think they'll narrowly win then milk it for all its worth.

Saying that I said the exact same thing here about Glasgow East so who knows!
Climate change plan under fire 7:01pm on 15 Oct 2008 Personally I've been disgusted, even as a person living in Western Europe, at how the "EU" solution has been lead almost entirely by the traditional big players of the EU. I hope the Eastern states do give them a reminder that this is now an EU of 27, not 15.

Either way, somebody please save the free market!

Lets be frank, Sarkozy is nothing more than a complete chancer.

Don't get me wrong, I'd rather him than Chirac, but what is he thinking - an EU wide bailout? How completely unfair would that be for several member states?

Not to mention the fact that its a complete disgrace to resort to bailouts anyway.

Say no to socialism! What sort of example is Western Europe setting for its Eastern counterparts? Shambolic.
Bank rescues under scrutiny 08:14am on 01 Oct 2008 I think it would be sad if we see a move now away from free market economics in any form. It has served the EU incredibly well until now.

I don't know why but for me, one of the most annoying aspects of the credit crunch has been that it gives people like socialists, or Sarkozy, ammunition to attack free market economics. Sarkozy really gives the impression to me that he's particularly smug over the fact that "he told us so".

As if there haven't been enough examples already to date that socialism is a one way ticket to failure as well.

Damnit let these banks go to the wall with only the very necessary protection and lets stick to our guns!

Save our Strasbourg 1:59pm on 23 Sep 2008 There can be absolutely no doubt that Brussels would feel some of the after effects as well if the EU moved its headquarters (or some of its institutions) from there.

I suspect apart from in France, nobody will shed a tear for Strasbourg's loss of revenue if the parliament seat was removed from there. At the end of the day, the money and time saved will far outweigh the interests of this minor part of France. There is no room for sentiment in the running of an EU now covering 27. Jeez this isnt 1945.

Its wierd actually, I bet the person who goes on about the symbolism of Strasbourg will also be one of the first to attack "Eurosceptic" opinion as being out of date and backward thinking. Rather ironic wouldn't you say?

Anyway, they have the Court of Human Rights there as well so they shouldn't get greedy.

The end is finally near for the pointless Strasbourg parliament you have to feel - it may be a while away but at least its no longer far off in the distance!
Cassius strikes 4:34pm on 17 Sep 2008 I think Labour supporters should currently be more concerned with the idiots splitting their party and sending them into electoral damnation, as opposed to how Mr. Gray performs in the two-bit parliament in Scotland!

Priorities gentlemen, priorities.

Roll on 2010 I say! I smell a Tory landslide and the second step towards independence!

Cassius strikes 11:39am on 17 Sep 2008 If I was a Labour supporter I would be absolutely disgusted at David Cairns. What on earth has he hoped to achieve except for yet another step towards the self-destruction of his own party.

This whole scenario reminds me of the run up to the 1997 election with Labour playing the role of the Tories, and its amazing that these pathetic Labour rebels forget what happened to the Tories after their own version of pointless in-fighting.

I look forward to helping de-seat Mr. Cairns at the next General Election! What a traitor!
Sympathy and sensitivity 2:31pm on 17 Aug 2008 I think of all the things to blame any current Scottish administration for, the NHS is one of the last things you could use. Its a complete shambles in general.

I'd hardly blame the SNP here considering they inherited quite the mess from the Lab-Lib coalition.

Its difficult for any government though to carry out the necessary changes to the NHS since all politicians know that any perceived attack on free healthcare for all is a one way ticket to opposition land.

Bit of a shame really!
