the Iraqi guy will be treated as hero after his release, but this English thrower will not be liked in China at all.

Although he is calling for democracy and freedom for the Chinese, but the chinese will never see him as a saviour. The small exile chinese community overseas who greatly resents the communist regime cannot represent the mainstream chinese population. I am not suggesting that the chinese communist party was advocated back home, but for the chinese people, a calm whitehaired chinese scholar is a much better leader than a western lunatic who probably cannot find Tibet/Taiwan on the world map.

1. What will you do to create jobs for millions of immigrant workers? What measures will you take to make sure they can really join the city drawers and stop being the second class citizens? When will you see them become the middle class of our society being the backbone of our economy?
2. What will you do to make sure the billions of dollars that you spend right now will not only pop up the GDP figures for the time being but also provide the long term health to china's economy?
3. When will you stop reimbursing official's dinner bills and start to use taxpayer's money wisely on education, healthcare and social security? Instead of building roads and bridges to nowhere, why don't you spend more money on building the software other than the hardware of China?

I would like to first appologize for China's hypersensitivity on this issue.

To follow up on Palladiomc's comment, it is true that "you have done so" should not be an excuse of committing the same crime twice. However, it is also extremely unconvincing for a passed felon to stand at moral highground pointing fingers and recriminating china.

Here are one example of this:
US/Canada/UK have all treated local natives badly and some of whom even droven the native americans to the edge of extinguishion. 200 years later, when the ethnic chinese are doing much benigner things on the tibetans, they all stand up firmly against such action since what they have done were wrong, and we chinese are not suppose to follow their footsteps. Does it sound convincing?

Spending on China's credit card 05:33am on 01 Oct 2008 China won't put its money elsewhere as long as US is still the world's number one economy. Although markets have up and downs in the short term, but in the long run, US dollar will hold its value as long as the economic supremacy of US holds. And China believes the depreication of US dollar is not in the long term national interest of US either.
Olympic arrivals 06:24am on 30 Jul 2008 In two of your video clips, the readings from your handheld pollution detection device you got in front of the olympic village are 147 and 168. Don't you think the margin is tooooo big? or did you go to the olympic village for the video clip and the tests in two different days?
Olympic evictions 9:24pm on 20 Jul 2008 I believe the chinese figure 6000 only includes the residents evicted due to the construction of Olympic Venues. The 1.5 million figure includes evictions all over Beijing, for subway construction, the new airport, new roads(which Beijing is urgently needed due to its trouble traffic condition),etc. And most of those houses will not survive during an earthquake due to poor building safety quality. Many of them don't even have running water, sewage system and winter heating system. Since china has half of world's cranes in operation, there is no suprise that the world's most evictions happen in China. And I believe many of those evictions although unfortunate and regratable, but nessarary. Meanwhile, I strongly condamn the violence eviction such as the one happened in Shandong. Those local officials don't even have the most basic human conscience and only care about money. Those people should be brought to justice. Unfortunately that's how the chinese business works currently all over the country. If a developer wants to invest in building a new condo, he/she has to bride the local officials for approval and then they can start to make money together. The only people that misses this big feast of money is the poor who are most vulnerable and have no connections, no power(and even no rights). Only Few, (in this case nobody) in the community will help those poor since they themselves are either too busy in making friends with the powerfuls to make money, or do have sympathy over the poor people while considering them sympathatic and believe there is nothing he/she can do to help. This impassiveness is the direct result of defects rooted deep in chinese culture( which becomes even deeper after communist seizure power). To solve this issue, we need independent courthouse and independent police force to reinforce the jurisdiction. I believe there is a loooong way to go before we can achieve these goals in china where too many complicated interests interweaved.

I believe every country is simply acting on the global stage to serve the best of their national interest. There is nothing self-fish and irresponsible of that. But it is hypocritical and irresponsible when your western countries accuse us for all your problems and hindering us of pursuing national interest in a much more mildly way than you were (and are). I personally believe issues like Darfur and Tibet is just a beginning of a century’s long arguments and misunderstandings between the west and china, which will escalate into conflicts if mismanaged. And if your western media continues to miss the point, as you have always been, you will never get the support of Chinese people nor its elites in issues like human right and democracy, which should be in favor of our chinese since is our human right that you are trying to get it for us from the doctrine government. The fanatical favor of the west before 1989 is long gone. If you guys can not see the reason why you are losing Chinese people’s support over the past 20 years and continue to use westernized and superior lens in reporting, I am afraid you will never win our hearts back again.
(By the way, the source of all problems in Africa is poverty, not Chinese “invasion”. And the same applies for terrorism. If you journalists keep missing the point and only see the superficial problems of long term issues, you will always face constant challenges and tackle them through endless short-term solutions.)
Bush at the Olympics 09:16am on 06 Jul 2008 Hi, James, I don't know if you ever read those comments, but I will write it anyway. As an oversea chinese student in Canada, I got to watch BBC everyday for at least an hour. I found your program is quite similar to the international news that I used to hear in China, with coverage all over the world( unlike the American news). But I also found something very interesting, in terms of perspective of your viewing. For example, the most resent news about china on BBC world news is the "green" Olypics in Qindao, where algae clotted the venues, and you guys do mention about the cross-stright fight in the rolling caption below. Meanwhile, the historic fight is the biggest news on any chinese media. So I found it a little bit disappointing that you guys seemingly only cover the bad news not the good ones, or at least not at the same level. Same thing for chinese media, in which the top international news is president Bush was yelled over by some protesters in the independence day ceremony. I have a feeling that both sides are biased in choosing what to report and what not to. If this trend continues, I believe both sides will misunderstand each other and it will make further reconciliation btw china and west developed countries harder. Since I am powerless in changing the chinese media, I want you guys to move towards a more positive coverage. James, you can start by writing a new blog about hina-taiwan our hostile history and our current relations. So people in UK and around the world will understand my complicated country better and exempt you the censure of being biased.
