Adam Rant 10:14am on 13 Sep 2009 Likeable Dai Melding isn't really a Tory at all. He was so "wet" in the old days that he was a puddle. His switch to Plaid is a matter of time and he will be more than welcome in our ranks. When he has to choose between the unbridled English nationalism of the next UK Tory government and standing up for Wales, I think he'll know what to do!

How much? 4:53pm on 02 Jul 2009 I think I'm right in saying that in most, if not all, of the cases where the landlord is a political party, it is in fact the constituency party, not the national party who are involved. The idea that fat cat politicians are raking the cash into their central funds is clearly not applicable. Constituency parties tend to be pretty independently minded people.

I find it abhorrent that an impression is being given in the media that this has all been hidden from the public. It simply hasn't. Just because the media haven't previously chosen to analyse and explain the workings of the average AMs office to the electorate doesn't mean that the AMs or their parties are suddenly corrupt. I get the impression that some sectors of the Welsh media now want their own mini-scandal to be able to compete with the Westminster journos.

Hopefully fair and transparent working practices will soon be set in stone and then we can move on. And no, I'm not an AM, nor am I related to one, nor do I work for one.
Now you see him ... 08:28am on 02 Jul 2009 Sounds like some Tory & Lib Dem nonentities are trying to drag the Assembly down to the farcical behaviour of Westminster. I'm not even sure that there's even a story here, other than the good news that someone is actually trying to improve the links between north & south.

Time to panic? 07:51am on 09 Jun 2009 All I can say is that there was something in the results for everyone - except the BNP in Wales, who remain healthily low in the polls.

No one can take away a stunningly good result from the Tories - good luck to them and their new MEP, who seems switched on. Now that the Kinnock Sisters have stepped aside, we seem to have at least 3 MEPs who can work together to promote Welsh interests in the EU. That's better than nothing. I just hope that Mr Bufton doesn't toe the UKIP line of not taking part in voting. Wales could do with 4 efficient MEPs working together instead of 3.

I think that the result was good for Welsh democracy. It was a disappointment to see Pladi staying in 3rd, but the wafer thin gap between 1,2 & 3 softens that a bit.

I just note that a Plaid/Green alliance would have taken the 1st spot quite easily and been pretty close to getting the 4th seat. Imagine what that would have meant for the image of Wales? I hope Green Party members in Wales will think that one over.

I presume that you've never noticed that "the nationalists" have been calling for greater decentralisation for decades - not just to Cardiff, but out to all parts of Wales. Its not David Cameron's idea.

AS I remember it, life under a Tory government meant Gaulieters from outside Wales ruling from the Welsh Office, implementing unpopular policies without a mandate - with a huge fault line running between the people of Wales and those in power.

Even now we have Shadow Tory Welsh secretaries from outside Wales and a handful of potential Welsh based candidates for the job (Crabb, Davies) who would rather see the Assembly ditched to we could go back to the old model of rule from London.

I can't find much difference between those guys and the UKIP position to be honest. Anti-devolution Tories are the norm, and if there's one political battle left that's truly worth fighting, its defeating those who want to take Wales back to the dark days, the days when governments paid absolutely no attention to what people in Wales thought.
Countdown 08:31am on 02 Jun 2009 In Pembrokeshire you have "Flip 'n' Grabb" (Stephen Crabb) undermining the Tories and evidence that a whole new swathe of Labour members and supporters are peeling away from their traditional party. Its all very interesting. Very interesting indeed. Who knows how the chips will fall, but clearly its going to be a long night at the count.

The letter V has indeed been used in written Welsh in the past, as any student of early and medieval Welsh will tell you. It was disposed of with increasing standardisation of the written language which occurred with the growth of the Welsh language press during the 19th century.

Languages change - today's rules will count for little in 200 years time.
