The Mormon backlash 11:55pm on 18 Nov 2008 I was engaged to marry a Mormon in 1999.
I really liked her, she had a fun kind of wackiness. And then I went to church with her. After that her wackiness wasn't so amusing, and while she seemed to have a lot of the same values that I do, I no longer thought of her as suitable mate.
Maybe that's why I broke up with her, re-united a couple of years later for one date, and then broke up again.
My only regret is that I didn't have the tact to break up nicely.

If Gays and Lesbians had been patient they might have gotten legal equality in under the law through civil unions, without offending common Religious mores of the heterosexual majority.

Activist judges tried to legislate from the bench and ram their agenda down the throat of Californians, but the will of the people won out in Proposition 8.

The Mormons are not the only church against gay marriage. They are simply the richest contributors to the cause.
American exceptionalism 1:27pm on 13 Nov 2008 Americans, even those adamantly opposed to the ruling party, tend to give a new President a clean slate. He can do well or poorly from there.

Even Dubya was relatively popular before Iraq.

Anyone who's read my posts can count me amoung the pessimist column, but that doesn't stop me from hoping that Obama will rise to the occasion when the oportunity arises.

I also hope that there is something in plethora of the President Elect's classified briefings upset him enough to shake him out of his fantasy world.

Hispanics swing 6:56pm on 12 Nov 2008 Obama, and the rest of the socialist elite in the Democratic party, will loose out on traditionally conservative hispanic voters, no matter which way the economy goes.

If the economy gets better, then these voters will be thinking of other issues where democrats disagree with their views.

If the economy gets worse then the democrats who are no longer able to blame Bush or the GOP, will have to take the blame.

A hardline stance on imigration might hurt Republicans, if the GOP takes it too far.

Now here comes big brother to take all you have, then tell you how to live when everyone is equal in poverty, and remove any reactionaries from their way.

I pray that those who voted for Obama to end the Iraq war, will accept an phased, but quick, withdrawal from Iraq as the realization of their goals. And in 2010 vote congressional democrats out of power.

Otherwise, I see the United States degenerating into a totalitarian welfare state, an the constitution that swore to uphold will be little more than a piece of paper in outlawed history books.
