Man City will regret lack of ambition 11:31am on 22 Nov 2009 Fair to say the honeymoon period is over for man city. But Phil, before you berate man city for a 'negative' approach, exactly how many games do liverpool play at home, or away, that are entertaining? Liverpool are by far the most cautious team in the top four. Let's not ignore this fact.

They have countless number of average players apart from Torres, Gerrard, Carragher, Benayoun & Masch. The rest wouldn't get anywhere near man u or chelsea's teams.

But on to man city. They've beaten Arsenal, lost in the very last possible minute vs Man Utd, drawn at Anfield and villa park. Not a bad return really for them. I think liverpool fans should be very worried about their season.

Streetwise Aussies douse England spirits 9:15pm on 07 Nov 2009 We'll never beat the southern hemisphere teams until we realise that slow ball **COUGH DANNY CARE** does not win games. It happens every year and will happen for the next 5 years until we change our trundle-it-up-the-middle mentality. Thats not going to happen is it, realistically?

We never look like we have any training ground moves to cythe through the opposition or have the ability to see space. The more you watch England the more you realise the gap between the hemispheres (except France!) is massive, and Australia don't even have a national championship like the GP. It's all very boring and one-dimensional. Monye aside, there was no pace in our backline today. Its just so one-paced you have to wonder how the management see us going forward. It doesn't matter that JW played well, he always does, because we lost the game.
The only good part of our play was the line-out.

And before anyone says 'need time' or 'injuries', just remember what the Lions did over the summer with a scratch team. We are just not as good as we think we are depth-wise (same for Wales). New Zealand beat us every year and their NPC is much more attack-minded than the guiness prem.

We needed players with pace and vision like P.Hodgson, Strettle and Mat Tait playing from the off today. I think we'll be whitewashed in the 3 games.
Johnson primed for battle ahead 10:43pm on 03 Nov 2009 Don't rate foden at all. Doesn't have pace like other 15s i.e. Steyn, James O'Connor, Muliaina etc. Biggest surprises were no Strettle, Tait and Kennedy. Back 3 of Strettle, Monye and Cueto would have been ideal. Banahan isn't smart enough for top-level international rugby i don't think. Doesn't give the impression of a 'natural', sort of someone who can play whats in front of him and see space. Just seems like a big lump who can run thru people and has added minor things to his game. Like to have seen:
Wilkinson, Geraghty and Tait at 10-12/13.

New sports, same concerns for Olympic family 6:10pm on 09 Oct 2009 Everyone should agree that rugby sevens is a perfect fit for the olympics but golf is so boring and lacking the olympic morals its staggering how much money talks these days. I doubt many people will be tuning in to the golf at the olympics.

I'd be annoyed if i was squash. Banging on the door for years
Leeds & St Helens ready to rumble - again 10:19pm on 08 Oct 2009 Won't Leeds be missing the magic of Ali Lauitiiti on Saturday? He never played against the Dragons and has pulled out of the Pacific cup with Samoa for 'family commitments' so guessing he's gone back to Samoa cos of the tsunami etc. A real impact player, probably made the play of the season with the 'falling backwards offload' to Webb.

This is a bit like Man Utd v Liverpool

Leeds = United, just clinical and play the best footy
St Helens = Liverpool as they just seem to stutter along with no flair

We don't need Broad if Flintoff is back, but there's as much chance of them picking me as there is dropping golden boy. He's a bit like beckham was in the old days, undroppable, but nobody really knows why. Can't see why they keep picking him really. He did well today but only when the pressure was off, as does Ian bell

Imagine Key and Collingwood 3 and 4, that seems pretty solid to me. Ian Bell is never a 3 or 4 in a million years.
Map of the Week: Why Costa Rica is the happiest place 12:26pm on 04 Jul 2009 Whilst there is to scope to question the validity of their research and how they came to their conclusions, I can't really disagree with the findings. Costa Rica has been known for some time to be one of the most sustainable and well-managed countries in the world. Their tourism industry is first-class.

Like someone above posted, Britain these days is the definiton of 'keeping up with the Jones's'. Everyone seems to want the latest this or that, or personalised number plates as a status symbol or the newest phone. This desperation to be seen to be up-to-date drives the unhappiness and anxiety to 'keep up'. Once people step outside of this and see other societies, the shallowness of this lifestyle strikes home.

I have been to quite a few countries that can be described as 'less developed' ( i hate the term 3rd World). In every country all i found was one thing: people who were content with their lives. And not because they didn't know any different. They were all aware of the Western materialism (even in remote villages on island nations such as Fiji), but categorically did not want it and knew the consequences.

Anyone who saw Trevor McDonald's Secret Carribean will have seen the Cubans who said they did not want anything to do with consumerism and were very happy with their lives. I think that we can learn a lot from places such as Costa Rica. In many travel brochures now and indeed books, people are looking for places untouched by western society, original, cultural places. There seems to be a sort of contempt towards materialism creeping in.
Lions left to lick wounds after epic failure 12:28pm on 28 Jun 2009 Did it not strike anyone yesterday how wrong the replacements were in the backs? James Hook can cover Fly half and centre, and shane williams can cover scrum-half and wing, so why was harry ellis on there aswell when there was never a chance he'd get on, and if we needed a replacement SH then Shane Williams would do fine? Where was the planning if any of the centres got injured? Tommy Bowe is too light for inside centre, square pegs and round holes?

Ronan O'Gara is so over-rated its painful. He got smashed against the E.Springboks twice and got smashed by Fourie yesterday on his way to the tryline. Everyone knows he gets targeted. We needed a maverick like Hook yesterday not a steady-eddy like ROG. Jonny Sexton will be taking ROG's Ireland place thats for sure.

Lions tours will continue as long as they are profitable. Thats all that matters. Hosting unions love them because they bring huge profits, and you only have to look at the sponsors to see how much money Lions Tours generate. The Aussies will definitely produce a slicker marketing campaign and ensure every match is sold out. If anything this tour has GROWN the appeal of the Lions

!!!!!!!! Harry Ellis gives the slowest ball from a ruck i've EVER EVER EVER EVER seen. No wonder Dupuy is ahead of him at Leicester. I can't believe he hasn't learnt his lesson. Even the great Stuart Barnes alluded to it last night, saying "its been a common trait of English scrum halves down the years". Gomarsall was another one.

If Ellis gets on at scrum half at least I won't need to pause the game on my Sky Plus if i need a slash during a ruck!

Monye must play because the other offer NOTHING BETTER. Fitzgerald is just run-of-the-mill, Shane Williams, much as i like the guy, is trying too hard and isn't as quick as Monye and clearly suffering from a lack of confidence.

Hook must play ahead of Jones and O'Gara, although neither of those 2 are worth having on the bench as all they would do is kick for the corners to close a game out, which we won't be in a position to do.
