I'm very pleased to have come across your blog - my wife is East German (aus Berlin) so I have a keen interest in this topic. The continuing differences in pay between East and West workers is a subject she's mentioned often, due to the peculiarities of Berlin - you get the East or West tariff depending on where your place of work is located. This leads to some strange situations - for example, government workers relocated fom Bonn to Berlin, working in what was East Berlin, continue to get their West salaries. By contrast people newly employed in the same office, sometimes for identical jobs, are paid the East tariff, which means you could be paid substantially less than the person you sit next to purely due to the fact of the office's location. Needless to say this isn't very popular. I find it surprising that these inequalities still exist 20 years after reunification. Do you have an opinion about this? Are you planning to visit Berlin?

I love to paraphrase other people when I blog, but I always try to quote my sources. You could at least acknowledge that you adapted Wilde's phrase, particularly for those who wouldn't otherwise know. After all, to paraphrase Wilde again, there is only one thing worse than acknowledging your sources, and that is not acknowledging your sources.
Funnily enough, the chorus of that song ("Cemetery Gates") contains the lines:
'Keats and Yeats are on your side
While Wilde is on mine'
Do you think he's on yours?
I do like your blog though, and I agree with the sentiment. I hope it winds Fergie up even more...
How will the Premier League unfold? 09:40am on 11 Aug 2009 As a Liverpool fan, I would be delighted if your prediction about us finishing as champions comes true. Sadly, I don't share your optimism. Had we kept hold of Alonso, maybe we could have done it this year. Without him, and without Aquilani for maybe the first two months of the season, I think we'll struggle.
Liverpool top, but for how long? 10:55am on 02 Dec 2008 I think Rafa got it wrong last night. Leaving Mascherano on the bench was the biggest mistake - it shackled Gerrard, and his performance dipped as a result. He should have stuck to the team that have got us to the top - left Kuyt on the right and Benayoun on the bench, with Gerrard just behind Keane. Taking Keane off was premature too - he might not have had a good game, but with Torres out he's our main striker and needs to know he has Benitez' confidence. If he knows he's going to be subbed after an hour every time he plays, it can't be good for him.
Liverpool may fall short in title tilt 1:42pm on 14 Aug 2008 On the evidence of last night, Liverpool will win nothing this season. I disagree about Dossena - I think he's better going forward than Aurelio judging by the other pre-season games I've seen. But with no decent wide players it will be a struggle. Kuyt isn't up to it, Benayoun is a good player but he's not a left winger. Maybe Benitez can continue to be the mirror image of Wenger by turning strikers into wide midfielders and Babel will profit from being played on the left, but I can't see it. I hope I'm wrong, but I think Liverpool are at least two quality players short of a real title challenge this year.
