Moral Maze on Twitter and mob rule 9:53pm on 04 Nov 2009 This "mob rule" stuff is going on all over the internet,
the main thing that makes this supposedly worthy of discussion, is the "old" media's obsession with twitter.

Just because politics is discussed on twitter, it doesn't make twitter a new political force.
Reading the Kindle 4:24pm on 19 Oct 2009 I won't be getting a kindle, it's too expensive, the e-books are too expensive and the DRM means you don't own them, you just get a licence to read them. Amazon have already shown they are willing to delete books (the 1984 debacle) and disable features (text to speech).

I read e-books on my media player. There are many free and legal books out there in formats that won't stop working at the whim of Amazon.

iPlayer is different, you can stream it when you want on a wide range of platforms so the DRM isn't too much of a problem.

The download version is still useless to me, I can't download for my media player as it doesn't handle the required DRM.

Ironically, there are other ways of downloading the programmes DRM free, but I have to become a criminal to do it.

That's the problem with DRM, it doesn't stop what it's meant to and inconveniences/criminalises ordinary users.

If it's just the EPG data that's encrypted, how does that limit the number of HD copies?

I had read Graham's previous post, that was why I was asking for specifics. I feel a bit of "spin" was involved.

It was rather like food packaging that says "No artificial colouring" but doesn't tell you about the artificial flavourings or preservatives.

I look forward to a fuller explanation soon.

It's DRM, therefore it imposes restrictions. What are they?

I'm not complaining about commercial use, I'm not against creators making money.

I am against them believing they have the right to control every non-commercial use as well.

I'm not so sure they they should have the right to decide what formats of their work are allowed e.g. J K Rowling not allowing e-books.

Another example is out of print books - the majority of the books ever written are out of print, the author makes nothing, getting a copy e.g. scan is illegal but you aren't even allowed to buy them.
