Would YOU give him another chance? 5:48pm on 01 Nov 2009 I really can't stand this, "paid his debt to society" rubbish. He is jailed as PUNISHMENT and in this case rather on a rather too lenient basis. This man is an animal from whom the public should be permanently protected. As to a football club signing him again, this notion just proves that football is about nothing more than money. And deathshadow2, I don't recall Robbie Williams ever beating up any woman to her disfigurement.
The word on the street 4:33pm on 22 Oct 2009 I bound to wonder what is behind the, 'Smeatonist' faction. Sure, this young lad behaved very well on that dreadful day at Glasgow Airport but why does he now take his shining crown of heroism and dip in the cesspool of Scottish politics? I have never met the lad but any time I have seen him on tv he comes over as inarticulate. Still if the people of Dennistoun et al choose him, that's up to them. I can only hope that he and some of the other 'esoteric' candidates will split the Labour vote and let the SNP take the seat.

It never ceases to amaze me that constituencies where sickness and unemployment are rife, they vote for the party that continues to take their benefits away from them.
Lingering virus 2:05pm on 21 Oct 2009 Yes, Ms Sturgeon and her team have reacted very well to the swine flu problem but I for one, despite being in a high risk category, will NOT be having the vaccination. If one looks back at the last time swine flu reared it's ugly head in 1976, the vaccine had to be withdrawn because of serious side-effects. Indeed many people actually got flu and others went on to develop the possibly fatal condition, Guillain-Barre Syndrome which affects the nervous system rather like a raging attack of MS.

In the US, the government had to pay out millions in compensation to side-effects sufferers. I can't see any of our governments doing the same. It all boils down to this; how likely am I to get swine flu? And how likely is the vaccine liable to make me ill. The answer to the first is about 25% and the second...well we don't actually know. I'm not about to leap into the unknown. I say, give ALL the cabinet the vaccination and all their families it and then wait and see how it goes. If any member of the cabinet pops off then it'll be, 'Goodbye and thanks for all the fish (never could spell)'.

"so I'd contend that the youth of Scotland today really doNT see us as the 'nasty party' we surely were 30 years ago" There may be some truth in that statement but it has nothing to do with the Tory party having changed. It's still the same right wing destroyer or worlds it was when the Iron Ladle (oops) decimated Scotland. For those of us who still remember the dark days when ALL our industry disappeared under that dreadful woman's iron fist you are and always will be the nasty party. Yes, the youth of today might not see you in the same negative way but then, all they see is Big Brother, Facebook and something called an Amy Whinehouse. Fortunately for the rest of us, they don't know what a polling station is and most likely think Thatcher was Vera Lynn's backing singer..thinks...there would have been a good job, 'BLUE birds etc...

It's nice to see you here still doing your bit for Aunty (Annabel that is not the BBC who are owned by the Labour Party).
Lib Dems pina colada blues 12:55pm on 22 Sep 2009 I fear that Tavish Scott is a very poor leader of the LibDems in Scotland. He has no dynamism, no radicalism and no pragmatism. He is in short a semi-patrician with absolutely no idea of what the ordinary people of Scotland want. What would he and his party do if a referendum went in favour of an independent Scotland? Would he tell us all to go away coz he knows better? I think the LibDems lost an opportunity in not electing Ross Finnie as their leader if only on an interim basis. He has the political insight to know where the land lies and would most likely have seen advantages in a coalition. So far as I am aware, the only stumbling block to a coalition was the SNP's referendum bill. This smacks of childishness. "We're not playing with your ball coz it's bigger than ours".

The people need a say on this and to anyone with a drop of democratic feeling a canvas of the popular vote is essential on this vital issue. Labour's views simply mirror Marshall Brownski's own and as to the Tories, well I think we all know where they stand as they tried to move heaven and earth to prevent devolution at all. Best of it is, under an independent Scotland, all of these parties would have a much greater say than they have now about the running of the country. They would not have to constantly defer to Brownski, Von Cameron and pretty boy Clegg (nee Von Cameron).

So to Tavish Scott, give yourself a good shake and for once look at the bigger picture. You really don't want to be seen as someone who would deny the people of Scotland a say in their own destiny, or do you?

Bolton is a warmongering, nasty piece of work who should have crawled back under a wet stone when Bush got the push. Seriously, you have gone down in my estimation if you think that this guy is worth listening to.
Where next on Megrahi? 4:47pm on 25 Aug 2009 Y'know, I'm getting very sick of American comments on here and elsewhere about boycotting our goods. Aside from whisky, what do we actually make? Could we sell them a call-centre or two perhaps? So, they'll stop drinking our whisky? Who cares, the US long ceased to be the biggest consumer.

I'm heartedly fed up with all this bilge from Obama, Mrs Bubba, the FBI character and that loathsome man, John Bolton. I couldn't give a damn about America. Their companies have pulled out of Scotland leaving thousands of loyal workers to rot. They funded the IRA for 4 decades and didn't bat an eyelid when our cities were bombed and innocent people were maimed and killed. All they saw was John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara in the "owld country".

So let them boycott us and let them call us nasty names and let them wallow in their vengeful bloodlust. Scotland stands for right and justice not cash and vengeance.

Oh and to the Episcopalian priest who gave us the benefit of his opinion, were you off the day they discussed the new testament?

And karenm...right on about the flags. Could anyone here just pop out and buy a large Saltire just like those, let alone Libya? Do they sell them in the soukhs? Maybe Jim Murphy took them over on his way through the desert???
Where next on Megrahi? 6:23pm on 24 Aug 2009 I think it really has become a bit of a damp squib. Earlier today I feared a destructive attack on Kenny MacAskil and the SNP but no, it was mainly a subdued affair with MacAskil performing beautifully. Next week might be another thing. A week as we are often told is a long time in politics and the dust has already started to die down. Public opinion, far from being anti-MacAskil seems to be showing a degree of support for his stance.

Iain Gray looked feeble and rather pathetic, rather like a wee five-year-old on his first day at school. He'll have to try rather harder if he wants to fatally wound this Scottish Government and I don't think he is capable of it.

A confidence vote would at this stage be suicidal. Labour in the UK and Scotland are rapidly becoming pariahs and only a few steps away from unelectability. The Tories have as much chance of being in government in Scotland as Ian Paisley has of being the next Pope. The Lib Dems under Tavish Scott are shrinking into a parody of their former selves. If they all bring this government down they had better face up to the fact that an SNP administration might be returned with a working majority.
Government unlikely to fall - yet 2:14pm on 24 Aug 2009 Well all I can say is thank God for England winning the ashes for now the English Broadcasting Corporation will turn its biased nose away from Holyrood. What a fickle bunch they are a White City!

I hate having to say it but I fear Kenny MacAskil will have to fall on his sword. Whether he is right or wrong in this matter is irrelevant, there are bigger fish for the Scottish Government to deal with and by that I don't mean Iain Gray, I mean the future of Scotland. Sad, but a necessary evil.
