You Are The Ref - the final 10:53am on 29 Jun 2008 If you feel that the assistant is not performing as he should, ie there is some improper conduct, or there is undue interference from him, then you can relieve him of his duties and get the 4th or 5th official (reserve assistant) on.

The over-ruling by the referee is not very realistic as most referees will say to their assistants before the game that all offsides are theirs and the referee will not get involved unless the assistant is on the floor and incapable of seeing the event etc.
You Are The Ref answer & suggestions 4:39pm on 28 Jun 2008 10, the referee was completely and utterly wrong and would have been slaughtered by the assesor. Do you remember at which level this was? ie conference, unibond etc?

Are you trying to tell me that you would consult your assistant over an incident that you as the ref are 10 yards from and the assistant is 70 yards from. Why then did play restart with a goal kick and why did he rescind the yellow card, becuase he does not know the laws. There is no way on this earth that his assistant told him not to send off the defender as he didn't think it was worth a yellow. Utter tripe.

You Are The Ref #10 5:34pm on 23 Jun 2008 78, obviously a fan educated by the 'expert' pundits. Your use of the word delibrate is completely wrong in this context as intent is not in the law anymore apart from for handball and pass backs.

The law states exactly what was written in the question;

A direct free-kick must be awarded to the opposition if a player tackles an opponent touching the opponent before touching the ball. So, exactly what was said in the question.
You Are The Ref #9 5:00pm on 19 Jun 2008 I would dismiss the substitute and then abandon the game. As soon as I am, or any of my team is, assaulted then the game must stop. If the game had to continue then I would dismiss him and allow the team to continue with 11 players. UEFA would then charge the player.
You Are The Ref #6 5:09pm on 13 Jun 2008 I think that the referee would have to seriously consider abandoning the game. Both offending players would be dismissed. If the referee didn't abandon the game then I think that the 11th penalty taker for France would have to sit out and the penalty that he has just taken would be discounted. Then, both teams would start the process again with their first penalty takers.

I do think that the referee should abandon the game, however.
You Are The Ref #5 4:18pm on 12 Jun 2008 The question clearly states that there is "an excellent goalscoring opportunity for the attacking side" after the first foul. Surely this means that when the player brings down the attacker for the second time he has denied an obvious goal scoring opportunity which is in itself a red card offence. So the ref would just issue a red card for this tackle.

However, I don't think that is what the question is getting at. I think that 2 bookable offences occur so ref should stop play and issue two yellow cards. This is right as I had to do it once, but wrongly gave a straight red. When I reported it I was told to report it as two yellows and this was accepted by the FA and so must be right to do it.
You Are The Ref #4 9:48pm on 11 Jun 2008 This scenario does not state who the midfielder is intending the pass to go to. If he is passing to his goalkeeper then as the law states that an indirect free kick is awarded against a goalkeeper ih he handles a ball delibrately played back to him by a team mate, that is what must be given. But, if he is passing to a defender then a free kick cannot be awarded.

To all those people claiming that the word 'delibrate' in the laws refers to whether the player meant to pass it or not, regardless of who it was meant to go to, look at this scenario;

An attacker crosses a ball into the opposition's penalty area from the left wing. When he does this he is level with the edge of the oppostion penalty area. It is, however, a very windy day and the ball blows all the way back to the attacker's goalkeeper (team-mates) and the goalkeeper picks up the ball. Is this a pass-back?
The player delibrately meant to pass the ball but not to the goalkeeper and by many people's definition this is a pass-back. It is quite clearly not a pass-back.
