Obama rising above the sea? 8:07pm on 07 Nov 2009 The greater part of this blog now consists of ubermensch and staph. aureus, making comments and others replying to them. It has become troll heaven.

If it turns out he was making an Islamic statement, they might be hesitant to let us know for fear it might spark anti-Moslem hatred. Also if that was his intent then the army has to take a lot of flack for having a terrorist in its midst. Then, again, if the man was suffring from what used to be called "battle fatigue," that won't play too well either. It will be interesting to see how they spin this one. All the choices look bad. Maybe they will come up with a non-war-related psychiatric ailment.

His original health-care proposal, for instance, was intended to create competition so that pharmaceutical companies and health-care providers would have to bring costs down in order to secure business. Congress then went to work. Given the close ties of our elected "repesentatives" to these very industries, it is no wonder that the original proposals were gutted and made more pleasing to their benefactors..

It is in the realm of foreign affairs that a president is truly accountable.

"With the current divisiveness of our country it will be better to stop calling ourselves Republicans, Democrats, Independents, Libertarians, conservatives, moderates, liberals, others, and any other label that divides us. It is time to call ourselves "united" and find reasonable solutions and compromises that will save our nation."

Whose "united" do we adopt? Do we become clones? Robots? Do we condemn ourselves to slavish obedience. I think they tried that in Germany....

Many of us don't fit neatly into categories, which I guess is what mkes us independents. For instance I am socially progressive, for the most part, and fiscally conservative, for the most part. The only candidate who was a good fit for me was Ross Perot. If I were offered "conservative," "moderate," or "liberal," I would want to say :"other," Since they don't offer "other" the results they come up with are not accurate.

What Washington is slow to realize is that we Independents hold the power. It is particularly gratifying that they can never be sure what we will do.
Waiting for deliverance 04:17am on 04 Nov 2009 Why no mention of the gubernatorial race in New Jersey which unseated incumbent Democrat Jon Corzine. Corzine outspent Christie by multiples and had the backing of Obama who campagined heavily for him. I got telehone calls from him, Bill Clinton and other big guns. Huge defeat for the Democrats in my opinion. Virginia? Well it wasn't nearly as blue. Mike Bloomberg, the billionaire Republican mayor of New York got in again. I was sorry about that. He is too despotic for my taste. Mayoral elections in New York are not party related.
Republican revival in Virginia? 04:05am on 04 Nov 2009 That Virginia would vote for a Repulican governor is not surprising. More disconcerting to the Democrats is the victory of Christie over Corzine, the Democratic incumbent. Obama campaigned strongly for Corzine, and I had telephone calls from Obama, Bill Clinton, Senator Melendez, plus others I didn't know.. Recordings of course. i found these annoying and pushy and I wonder if it didn't cost Corzine some votes. I always hang up on these calls, no matter which side I stand on. They certainly give me a pain.

Whatever, the Christie election is a real kick in the pants for Obama, whether he deserves it or not.
