Is Australia unusually racist? 01:52am on 18 Oct 2009 expatpommie - I quote: "Australia is deeply, deeply racist" Is that a true reflection of multicultural Australia? What an absurdist argument to make and just showcases your anger towards this country (probably something personal) If you walk around Melbourne, Brisbane or Sydney what do you see? Answer me that? You see the majority of people from an Asian background (meaning tourists, Australian citizens or international students generally) Australia is becoming more and more a part of Asia and the link is a testimony to how we survived the economic disaster that hit your country much harder. Your comments are simply stupid to put it bluntly. I speak an Asian language and so does our PM.....The Melbourne Mayor is also from an Asian background.... does that make us more racist? Can you speak Polish? It makes you British look out of touch of the real Australia and another reason why we were voted most liveable next to Norway in the entire world..... Can a deeply, deeply racist place with such a diverse cultural mix be the 2nd most liveable??? ....... Australia is one of only a few countries that operate a dedicated offshore resettlement program, which accepts the world’s most disadvantaged and distressed people. The program makes available 12,000 new places for refugee and humanitarian entrants each year. Australia does not have a mainstream culture that can be described as “deeply, deeply racist” and I would like you to retract that comment please. It is offensive as an Australian.
Is Australia unusually racist? 12:11pm on 14 Oct 2009 SO the brown skinned Indian with the white face was not racist? Just the non-Anglo Australians depicting black ppl? Does that make sense in a nation that has had no African-American Slavery HYPOCRICY in the times of Obama......... I hate sensationalism and this is a classic example that is so cringe worthy... The "English Defence League" is a much more serious case of racisms in a country that has been recently hit badly by the economic crisis and stems out the frustrations...Take it in context... Cronulla..... ALCOHOL.....and a lifesaver getting attacked + mob mentality.... not actually as racist as FOX NEWS said it was... The irony is that FOX NEWS was the network over in the US that again really attacked Australia for being " backwards" yet I bet some of those white, blonde fox news reporters have not even walked the streets of Sydney or Melbourne where they would find 60% of the ppl walking around to be from an Asian country.....I have never seen a racist attack on an Asian Australian in my time here.... that says a lot....
C for cricket - or celebrity? 01:40am on 09 Jul 2009 I would love Nick to dedicate a post on the topic of "Why is Australia better at sport than England when the country has nearly three times the population" The statistics are mind boggling especially when you consider the per-capita argument. Imagine if the money, passion and effort that go into AFL were channelled into international sport - England would be even further behind Australia. That is a valid point. Is the sporting ability of a nation a reflection on a better society (better living standards and Australian cities get the most liveable award more then any other nation on earth) havve something to do with it? Can England admit that their former colony has............a better society? Is egalitarianism the perfect blend for a capitalist society....does it go further to stop the greed we saw with the UK banks in contrast to the Aussie banks? Is this mentality a reflection on our sporting prowess? More people get to participate in sport as everyone is seen as more equal? Is there a less emphasis on sport for the lower socio-economic areas in England... the answer is YES.......... England needs to adapt some of the Australian ways to become the power it was. At the moment Australia is going one way and England is going in another direction. That is why Australia will become a republic and independent and our sporting ability is a reflection of how great this country is in contrast to the class obsessed, expensive and over-populated England.
How Portugal treats drug addicts 03:23am on 04 Jul 2009 I do not understand why the issue of MDMA regulation has not really been mentioned. British scientists made the claim that mdma is at a low 18th spot in contast to alcohol at 5th spot in regards to harm. It was used by theripists when it was legal with some very good positive ramifications. It seems to term esctacy has given the drug a bad name in most of the mainstream media because of the fact that anything can be put in an esctacy tablet and thus it can get a bad name. In moderation and at right dosage levels this can be a purely magical and beneficial experiance as it makes you see the best of yourself and the world. Rather then violence and slurred speaking - you can think with total clarity and enjoy the music on a new level. Even with the fact that it is illegal the deaths have been so miminal that we need to look into regulating this amazing drug.... MDMA
The China syndrome 02:00am on 08 Apr 2009 To all the Liberal Aussies using the terms " Krudd ", "Dudd" and Kevin 747 - we have all heard it around 1 million times, but original thinking is never your ways is it..... Just keep the same old formulas coming over and over and over again. Conservatism did not work for the world hence the giant shift with Obama. It took the worst of the worst to bring out the best of the best. Crickey we might even finally see electric cars in our cities by 2012 starting with L.A and turn China into a mass production lab for them to be made cheaply for Aussies. .... finally

Australia's Bligh hopes to avoid hat-trick 00:16am on 21 Mar 2009 Queensland the most conservative state? Sounds like a cliché to me... Well 30 years ago - yes... however QLD especially Brisbane has seen a rapid dramatic progressive shift. The numbers visiting and calling " Brisvegas" their home is increasing at an alarming rate in contrast to other cities. It has turned into a great street cafe, nightlife, arty ( Bribsane comedy festival at the Powerhouse in New Farm on atm is a brilliant set-up ) and more and more popping up all the time. The transformation is happening so quick. South East QLD also has the highest Ecstasy use per capita then anywhere in the world, which again highlights a progressive mindset as BRITISH scientists recently stated in a BBC article that alcohol is the 5th most dangerous drug while MDMA is at a low 18th spot in regards to danger. 11 years of Labour...that is nearly matching Canada with it's 13 years til it went conservitive...A climate this good and culture too?It must be paradise.... Marvellous effort, that! 03:54am on 19 Feb 2009 To my generation he was a real laugh. Someone you never took seriously and who we often mimicked playing back yard cricket. He was Mr obvious and he would often tell us what we already know and try and turn it into something intelligent when it really wasn't. Hilarious and one thing is for sure we will never forget this bloke. AN axample of his obvious quotes were ' The slow-motion replay doesn't show how fast the ball was really travelling' Unquote - Brilliant
Rudd's human face 01:52am on 19 Feb 2009 In regards to BrisbaneBen it is often those who blindly follow mainstream media that label anyone who suggests something different to be conspiracy nut... that is why Thomas Jefferson warned us of the "sheep to the slaughterhouse" remarks. Do not follow blind. I actually took the time to look at all the evidence and I bet you just watched the mainstream news. Why would thousands, even famous personalities such as Charlie Sheen, the star of CBS‘s Two and a Half Men, who is debating whether to narrate a controversial documentary about the September 11 tragedy. Why did the buildings fall like that? Give me your answer Ben? Scientists with the National Institute of Standards and Technology say their three-year investigation of the collapse determined the demise of WTC 7 was actually the first time in the world a fire caused the total failure of a skyscraper. It relates to the fact that we should never get behind a leader with pure conviction just because there is a huge tragedy and that is how it links to this story Taz....
