Life in the old dogs yet 4:41pm on 30 Aug 2009 I just find the game (and, yes, its result) difficult to swallow. The most obvious example - Fletcher never did get booked!

When I read "Ferguson beats Wenger", that's the type of beating that comes to mind. 50% more fouls, 50% less yellow cards...
But is it art? 2:15pm on 14 Jan 2009 The obvious questions are where the money's gone and what agreements have been breached, but darned if this isn't funny.

The difference is his demands would at that point be seen as unsupported and he'd be a minority. As laughable as that hypothetical situation is.

Button it Benitez! 09:58am on 14 Jan 2009 If he's believed this for such a long time, Benitez chose the worst of times to mention it. A more discrete response would have been to merely state the end-of-season home advantage for United and then save the rest of the fair points for a better time.

I've long held the views Benitez voiced about Ferguson, and look forward to the sport improving as a whole when he's finally gone. Manipulating officials should absolutely not be a part of football.

If I've got to comment on the blog itself: I'll agree that a good amount of it was genuinely funny, but there were also a few cringe-points where it seemed Robbo was stretching just a little too far.
Playing the numbers game 10:35am on 05 Jan 2009 Can I quickly request that at least one of these articles uses a club other than Arsenal when naming an example of "international squads" ?

I understand they are often jabbed at as being "a club of foreigners", and that blog entries can quickly make use of this fact to make an easy point (which in turn probably supports aforementioned jeering).

But they are not the only club in Britain that has the diversity and tolerance of a squad assembled from around the world.

Ugh, what the heck. The article makes it sound like the vote is going to be determined by blind voting.

"No. I'm not going to vote for something I don't understand."

That's the sort of attitude a good participant has when they don't know enough. To be honest if I was Irish I'd probably go vote No just to cancel out one of the aforementioned thoughtless loons.

Because of that, if I was the ref in this situation, I would attempt to one-up this legend by stopping play and presenting the offending player with a purple card.

I would then not explain the ramifications of that, and resume play much to the bewilderment of everyone.

Heh.

Seriously though, yellow cards are often called "caution" or "warning", particularly by commentators. If that means you cannot show two at once, then the player could not legally be sent off.

If (and only if) that is just a poor inferral and you can in fact show the player two yellows for two separate incidents that happened before the first yellow, then like most of the other posters I would.

Surprised nobody has opened up the law book on this one yet.

But the trouble is that "body-shielding" the ball is not a trick! Defenders do it all the time to get a goal kick.
