KP makes headlines again 11:13am on 20 Feb 2009 Agers -- A quick programme idea, but a really good one I think would be to do a series on great Radio and TV sports commentators over the years for the BBC. Richie benaud retiring made me think of it but there are loads! Brian Johnson, Jim Laker, obviously John Arlott but also many outside of cricket, Dan Maskell etc etc. Would be superb I think, can you suggest it?

Also, whilst your at it, Masterchef is nowhere near the standard it was. I think a series with winners from Lloyd Grossman's day vs the rubbish current ones would be a cracker. Thoughts?
Banks' most pressing problem 5:08pm on 07 Oct 2008 I have followed the Financial crisis in the news relatively closely. I read/heard in the media that American taxpayers would end up paying an average of $2,300 per taxpayer for the bailout state side. I am now presuming that the UK will in turn issue a bailout of c £50bn and that would presumably be funded by UK taxpayers. I fully understand that,as Michael Hesiltine put it on Question Time, it is a necessary evil ( he was referring to the bailout in the States)

So, presuming we don't get that paid back by the Government/taxman when sanity resumes I have a proposal and it is a serious one:

a) Taxpayers receive shares in these banks that benefit from our cash input as a return for our 'investment'. There can be stipulations on when we allowed to trade these shares to give an element of control

b) Bonus' in those institutions are frozen until such time they get back to a normal state

c) Decision makers in these institutions are investigated for gross negligence ( I presume that should one of their clients have gone bust they would have foreclosed on them but now they seem to be 'telling' us to bail them out aka The head of Lehmans in the US yesterday. The irony and arrogance was quite incredible from a man who was approving huge bonus' just days/weeks before Lehmans went south)

Thoughts Robert? It would make the 'bailout' much easier to sell to us
England struggle to turn the screw 2:21pm on 11 Aug 2008 Aggers, I agree that sometimes England are quick to give a single, However, a couple of points on your blog. Pieterson is learning and he knew full well the moment that 'catch'went to second slip. It is perhaps a little harsh expecting England to have bowled them out for much less. They are a strong side and a determined one and getting them out for less than 200 is good work as this is a good track as England are proving now.

Anyway, an interesting blog. Just one quick point, with test cricket in this country rarely lasting a full day due to bad light why don't we start Test matches an hour earlier. I understand people travel from all over the country and an early start is difficult but those not able to get to the ground before 11 say would still see the same amount of cricket as they would before. Due on the ground may be an issue but in reality it is generally dampish anyway. Thoughts?
US v China battle catches the eye 1:43pm on 11 Aug 2008 Right, can someone in authority please read this article? Compare it to pretty much any article written in the broadsheet newspapers today on any sport.

This is awful, I would genuinely not be surprised if I could find a midly talented sporting 14 year old who could analyse and break down this game better. It is comical. This is what my licence fee is going on?

There is no insight into the match at all! No analysis aside from some extremely basic points and I mean extremely basic.

This man has to read some of the other blogs on here like Aggers or read/listen to Atherton, then make a judgement if he is actually doing the general public any kind of service by spending our hard earned licence fee by being paid, BY US, to produce this total load of rubbish.

Pietersen will bring a new style of leadership 2:02pm on 06 Aug 2008 Obviously a difficult choice and no matter what decision was arrived it there would have been extensive coverage and debate of it.

In this day and age of increased pressure on sportsmaen and women I think it would have been wise to separate the captaincy of the one day side from the test side. Reading Michael Atherton in yesterdays times he favoured Stauss for the test side and KP for the one dayers. Robert Key then comes into the equation also for both as it goes. Key for me stands out as the Natural skipper amongst the three, he seems to thrive on it. I wonder if either Staruss or KP will. Key also could have been a natural 'replacement' for Vaughan at No 3. The batting line up for Thursday looks to lack runs and Key would strengthen that.

The fact is that we could talk round and round it. I would have either gone for Strauss for Skipper for tests and KP for ODI's, if the selectors were hellbent on a skipper for both ( and I can see no reason why they should be) then I'd go for Key. Having made their choice I would have brought Rob key back for the test matches to replace Vaghan and then KP has an experienced skipper and a real Cricket thinker he can ask advice of as he learns his trade.

Finally, I do not believe for one minute thta Paul Collingwood resigned for the reason he stated. It is the mark of a true gentleman and a man who puts his country before his own gain that he resigned to give the selectors a blank sheet of paper to work with. I tell you if our backs are against the wall in the ashes I know exactly who I want out in the middle and that's Collingwood.
China seeks to prove point to West 2:50pm on 05 Aug 2008 Are you seriously comparing the IOC with the Vatican? How long will it take for the BBC to put an end to these articles? Want an example outstanding writing? Insightful? Useful? Read Michael Atherton in todays times. What an example of useful analysis watch Will Greenwood on Sky.

For heavens sake will the bbc please put an end to this and put this guy on the Eurovision song contest or something? It's comical

Next stop Beijing 12:19pm on 29 Jul 2008 As Mr Bose thinks that in an ideal world we should speak upfront, I thouight I'd humour him by doing exactly that. I cannot think of a better event for you to attend short of a United Nations meeting. Absolutely no sport involved in this meeting so you should feel right at home. Please stop reporting on meaningless, boring nonsense. Why not discuss whether michael Vaughn should still be England Captain when he can't buy a run, or should they have dropped Broad, or any insight into the Ronaldo situation, or our brightest medal prospects at the Olympics or even better potential medal prospects that we may not know about. I want to know how on earth you landed your job , I have yet to hear you on the news not either stating the obvious or news that is at least a week old. Please report something useful, incisive and informative rather than this endless nonsense

b) Give 'news' three days old c) try and give the impression that all these governing bodies and sportsman only talk to him.

Is it possible to get a Sprts Editor who actually comes up with news. Breaking News rather than this continued rubbish?
