Friday 20 November 2009 00:04am on 21 Nov 2009 You don't have a Newsnight Review comments board, so I'll stick this here. I just wanted to say well done yet again to Rosie Boycott for revealing the plot of a film none of the viewers of NR have yet had the chance to see.

And for adding the name of the actor, too, just to make sure none of us can go into the cinema with any uncertainty in our minds. Isn't she thoughtful?
Jack and Jill went up the....er...um... 6:00pm on 08 Oct 2009 Your guest didn't seem to be aware that 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt' is an old campfire rhyme - that's why it's so shout-out-loud memorable. We were taught it on a school trip in 1981, the only difference being the large mammal was a lion, not a bear.

Btw, I've never heard the second verse of Jack and Jill used as the vox pop test in your programme, and I've read the Opies and co.

You see, you've forgotten them already - they were a heavily-hyped bunch of converse-sneaker-wearing rich kids and the darlings of the same sort of thirtysomething broadsheet journalists who went on to fall at Pete Doherty's feet. The album cover featured a lady's crotch, which they probably thought was very clever. I'm sure David Cameron has a copy, filed next to that Goldfrapp CD everyone had. He certainly had the shoes. They were touted as the Next Big Thing,the new Stones, etc., only they weren't.

Wednesday, 22 April, 2009 11:32pm on 22 Apr 2009 Briefly wondered why the media was being so wildy scathing about this budget (compared, say, to the views of callers - i.e. relatively normal people - I've been hearing) - then realised of course, of course, that you all fall into the £150,000 plus bracket (several times that, in some cases). I suppose you'll have to cut back on the artisan-baked dog biscuits and ivory back scratchers.
Newsnight & Newsnight Review: Friday, 3 April, 2009 1:41pm on 04 Apr 2009 I was surprised that the Review panel dismissed modern demonstrators as a bunch of middle class kids. Don't they know their history? They may not like it - not very romantic - but most of the revolutionary leaders of the last few hundred years have been middle class kids, including Tristram Hunt's beloved Levellers Lilburne and Rainsborough.

On Picasso's 'Guernica' - maybe I'd have more respect for this painting if its painter hadn't spent WW1 in the French countryside, and the Spanish Civil War and WW2 living the life of Riley in Paris. Cowardly bastard.
Gordon Brown is a "one-eyed Scottish idiot"....according to Jeremy Clarkson. 10:08am on 07 Feb 2009 On Any Questions last night, it was explained that Thatcher was sacked because she only made a partial apology. Well, Jeremy Clarkson has now withdrawn, or made it blatantly clear, that he too is only offering a partial apology. His retraction of his 'apology' is proudly pasted all over the cover of today's tabloids and the Murdoch TV media. He evidently believes he is untouchable, and the BBC's reaction to his earlier offences makes it sadly very clear that in this he's right - the schoolyard bully is also the teacher's pet.

I've been on the BBC once, to do a piece on Woman's Hour - when I went in, I was warned not to say anything party political. My subject was cookery. If the BBC is that strict about a guest on Woman's Hour, why is a fully paid up (very fully!) presenter operating under a BBC banner (an 'ambassador' of sorts for the corporation on an Australian jaunt!) allowed to make party political remarks like this, remarks which have now gone global, and for which he refuses to apologise? C'mon, why?
Gordon Brown is a "one-eyed Scottish idiot"....according to Jeremy Clarkson. 5:36pm on 06 Feb 2009 The BBC's fits of 'morality' evidently only apply to presenters with a small fanbase: does anyone here really, honestly think that if Jeremy Clarkson had made the 'golliwog' remark, he'd have been sacked? Judging by the BBC's response to the murdering prostitute 'jokes' and the killing animals boasts, the answer is a big fat NO. And I can't see the Daily Mail weighing in behind Gordon Brown, another factor that clearly influences BBC 'morality'.

Btw, I keep hearing that he is 'popular' - well, so was Bernard Manning. The difference is, Jeremy Clarkson makes his sexist, homophobic, racist and disablist remarks in a public schoool accent. So that's all right, then.
Beryl Bainbridge and the Liverpool accent. 6:11pm on 23 Jan 2009 Any scouser over the age of thirty who no longer lives in the city: go back, and try and have a conversation with someone under 25. Go on, try it. They might as well be speaking Inuit - and they will be unemployable anywhere outside a ten mile radius of the city. That might not be an issue if this was 1320, but it's 2009.
