Redknapp said 'Give me him him and him and we'll be top half and maybe win a cup, maybe Europe', the owners jumped on it. They could have said 'no', but they didn't did they, they said an emphatic 'yes'.

It's the manager's fault when the team don't peform, it's the board's fault when they go to rack and ruin because the books are a mess.

The deal itself is a classic tale of middle man makes deal.

Man City challenge is no fake 10:51am on 06 Oct 2009 A huge mistake is made here. For City to break the top 4 not only will they have to have a current squatter drop out, but they will jhave to beat Spurs to it as well.

I know the usual return comments already, but Spurs have been impressive with a depleted back four and without Modric. Spurs have played Liverpool, United and Chelsea and have 3 points, City have played Arsenal and United and have 3 points. But Spurs' other games have been far tougher.

The game between the two on 15th December will be a big point of the season, with City playing Chelsea 2 weeks earlier.

Oh, and a look at City's run in might give Phil a bit of persepctive.

You miss a rather large part: "whose husband agreed to sacrifice his career to make hers possible"...and now gets paid £40,000 a year by you and me to 'run' an office. That's the wage of a senior civil servant going to an 'aide'. She doesn't have to be away from her family, they could all live in London and she could spend two days a week at the constituancy.

And you play the system card. Pathetic to be honest. 'It wasn't me it was the system', 'I was simply following orders', a defence that is legally established as invalid. None of them have to claim it, none of them have to work it so they get their house re-fitted for free, none of them are forced to take out a mortgage to cover their debts on a house 8 miles away and then get the people of this country to pay it off for them.

Yes, the system is all wrong. But they are the people who create the system, run the system and use and abuse that system.

Bill Nic was a legend, a great man, but he had to go because his style and approach became outdated, tired. Spurs never really recovered, although did ok in a hit and miss way.

Wenger is much the same. Those above (ie #16) that say there is potential, that Wenger is re-inventing the game, are missing a point: he has been doing this for over four years now, with zero success. His team are treading water for the optimist, for others they are going backwards.

Yes his style is great, but no one could call Man Utd boring and yet Fergie is preapred to bite the bullet and buy what he needs. The result is a frightening squad of talent that can compete in the modern game of multiple competitions and injuries.

Missing Champions League footy will be devastating to Arsenal. It isn't just the money (they may be rich but no club can simply absorb a loss of near £30 million), it's the kudos, the prestige. Players like Fabregas have already spent years waiting for the potential to come good and may well decide enough is enough.

Milan have been in the UEFA this season, but they are a really huge club with prestige that cannot be dulled, Arsenal don't have that luxury.

The great depression was caused for various reasons, it was made even worse because of protectionism.

That is the accepted, valid, fact.

Flanders is arguing that protectionism didn't cause the great depression, which misses the point by a country mile.

No one is saying it caused the great depression, the Smoot-Hawley act didn't even come into force until after the crash.

She has compiled an argument using post-event legislation not causing the event in the first place.

What has caused the current situation is banks not knowing who is going to be left holding the wrapped up bomb when the music stops because of the total lack of regulation, relaxed by Clinton, Bush, Blair and Brown.

#33 Friedman was actually right, but his policies were never implemented in the right or full way - they were always mangled because politicians are terrified of losing their almighty grip on the state. Unlike the great Keynsian experiment which was embraced fully and directly led to the UK going bust in 1976 and gives the politicians everything they want - more control.

You state politicians are wrong for saying that protectionism made the great depression worse than it would have been...because it didn't cause the great depression.

That isn't what is being said and you are grossly mis-representing the economic argument.

Protectionism didn't cause the great depression in anyway. There were a multitude of reasons that are well argued and will never be resolved. You are right that the main reasons were that liquidity was not provided by the Fed and the gold standard caused a domino effect: the first out were the least hit.

However, protectionism and the Smoot-Hawley act did have a huge effect in making everything much worse. The recognised figures (US State Dept) for exports falls are actually more like 61% and you utterly fail to mention the effect on imports, which fell 66%.

You have 'attacked' this from completely the wrong angle.

Why don't you/won't you whack the spotlight firmly on the government and ask the questions that blogs have been asking for days?

Green is a member of Parliament who has used normal and established methods to hold the state to account.

Turner was a behind the scenes character who was alleged to have facilitated corruption on a large scale and thus undermining the democratic heart of this nation.

The comparison is a non-starter.

What you should have raised, surely, is how on earth neither the Speaker, the Home Secretary or the Prime Minister knew that a senior MP was about to be nabbed by the rozzers for doing his job, even though said rozzers acted upon a complaint from the Cabinet.

Furthermore, why did the Met tell Boris and Dave, but not their boss, Jacqui?

The BBC coverage of this has been a shambles so far and you have obviously had to put something, anything our there to look like you are looking at it.

You've mised the mark by a mile Nick.
