Gardening is good for the appetite and your diet looks pretty healthy to me.

I don't have fruit, veg, or long borders. But some serious pruning led to tea, cake and fab ginger biscuits this pm.

I've been watching swallows flying constant food runs for 3 youngsters. It seems to be working. They're spilling out of the nest.

That sounds like quite a week. Truly commendable stamina to pack it so full.

Thanks again for the intro to Dr Claire. I've given the Viburnum a 'once-over'. It seems the beetles are gone and the larvae are hiding.

I haven't space for a vegetable patch. But hope to get some pots organised for a few specials. It's one of the great things about a garden. There's always a 'new' idea to try out. It's just a question of making time.

Very much appreciate your time and trouble. Will follow your advice. Hopefully, these over-zealous munchers will not start snacking on my other Viburnums. Are they partial to V. tinus or will any variety do?

Things that should have been planted out last weekend 8:15pm on 02 Jun 2008 Hi Alys. Hope you found some time for planting this weekend. I managed some extra hours in the garden last week. And it was a real treat.

Wondered if you could help. I planted a Viburnum tinus a few years back. It's grown well, but this year the leaves have been shredded by something. Starts off with small holes, that become big holes, then leaves turn yellow, curl and die back. Any ideas what it might be and what I could do to stop it?

The garden at Berryfields says much about his personality and priorities. It's a tribute to everyone who grafted to create such valuable material for us aspiring gardeners.

Monty's left Berryfields in very capable hands. I hope you have more time to share your enthusiasm, experience and knowledge in front of the camera.

On the subject of spades ... I still garden with the spade and fork my dad used. I can't speak for Monty, but I know my dad would be delighted they're being put to good use!

PS. As slugs are excellent grub for hedgehogs, I wonder if the gardener can also be a naturalist?
