Credible news - who decides? 5:04pm on 19 Aug 2008 I think this idea will not work out at all. I agree with you Rory that it will be more of a judgment oriented meeting, more than anything else.

I believe people who reads BBC News, the New York Times, the Times or Business Week (among other high credible sources of journalism) do not bother to check in websites like Digg or NewsCred. They trust the editorial staff from the newspapers / websites because they represent a highly trusted source of journalism. It is they work and they were taught how to do it right.

Now I believe not all the interesting stories are discussed by those newspapers or websites (by a lack of time or just not important enough to interest a broad audience). This is where the likes of Digg and NewsCred can come in handy, with a search for a topic or just browsing through recent article. But do not misunderstand me, those sites do not come as a primary source of news.

For the people who have never read the sources of news I mentioned earlier, the point of view might be completely different. But I am not the correct person to discuss this view.

NTT Docomo (the main carrier in Japan) has a home service for owners of Wi-fi enabled cell phones to access mobile web sites at a maximum of 54 mbps. Furthermore, Docomo tested a system that transmitted data at a speed of 250 Mbps, which should be launched in 2009.

Asia is always further ahead of the US and Europe. These are speeds which should be able to get in about 5 years, so this is why it is interesting to look closely at this market.

US media's crimes against Web 2.0 12:33pm on 13 Aug 2008 I have read that the NBC model is far different from last Olympics games. They will hold about 2/3 of the games (more than 2 thousand hours of footage out of more than 3) on their website, requesting that someone installs Silverlight from Microsoft to view the content.

It is apparently a big move because they was very few content on NBC's website about last Olympics game, and now they offer a lot of footage extremely quickly, with written comments and such.

If we follow this path, NBC could hold almost the entire next Olympics in live on it's website in 2010 or 2012, who knows?
How cool is Cuil? 6:48pm on 30 Jul 2008 I've tried something even more disturbing. Try typing "iPhone" on Cuil. I got no correct pictures associated to the iPhone at all, and worst, in the "Apple iPhone" tab it shows me a picture of a very old phone.
How cool is Cuil? 5:29pm on 28 Jul 2008 Rory (and for that matter jazz_mavericks too), the search engine had been called "Cuill" but it changed to "Cuil". It only has one 'L' now.

It does not change the result for "Cuil backers" though.
Saving TV advertising the TiVo way 10:49am on 23 Jul 2008 This is not going to work. First of all TiVo does not have enough users to have a big impact. More importantly, people shop on the internet for good bargains. I love Amazon and it has some nice prices, but they are clearly not always the best. Amazon will not take off on TiVo because people can not compare prices and find better bargains.
