The longest day, the shortest hour 4:31pm on 11 Sep 2009 Hi all,
I know Tom will be chuffed with all your positive comments.
He's not here in person because after his gruelling efforts over the summer, he's off having a well-earned break. Typically, rather than go and lie on a beach for a week, he's hiking one of Europe's best-known long-distance trails. No doubt he will bore tell you all about it when he returns..
But he did leave me this message before he left..
"Huge thanks for all the kind words of advice on the blogs over the summer, which were a massive help. Without going too G Paltrow/H Berry, big thumbs-up in particular to coach Ian Grant for giving up so much time, plus Daley T/ Dean M/ Goldie S/ Leo B for the one-off sessions that hurt-but-in-a-good-way.
"Am I happy with the final tally of 3443 points? I know it’s not very impressive. I would have liked to make 4,000, but let’s be honest – I wasn’t good enough. I’m just glad I managed to actually do it. When that hamstring went I thought that was it. Even with a month to go I thought it was probably touch and go.
"Final thought? Decathletes are both nuts and nails. I take my hat off to all of them. And Daley – I will be back for that next training session, I promise. Right - what's the next challenge??"

For those of you outside the UK, we will be posting a second version of Murray's review without the action clips (which under our contract with Formula 1 we can only show in the UK) a bit later.

To others, yes the middle section of the titles were indeed used on the BBC 6 o' clock news today. We will put up the full version over the weekend.

In Steve's defence he rattled this off really quickly dashing from the finals in the Water Cube and back to the office here in the Broadcast Centre, before heading back to the pool for the heats. I should have spotted the Stephanie slip, apologies from me.
As for GBR - our style on the BBC Sport website is GB - but the team are listed as GBR in all Olympic literature, start lists etc.

Opening ceremony sneak preview reveals China's power 09:18am on 06 Aug 2008 Eirczhao, you are right. I'm afraid I do not know much about China - but I am trying to learn.
My comment was not a criticism - why take it as one? It was an admission of my own ignorance and therefore reluctance to cast judgement on 2,000 of years of Chinese history as displayed in dance and music - when I know little about it.
There were lots of little nuances I would love to have had explained to me - though when I wandered into the public seating area I was very swiftly asked to move out.
Despite China's powerful position in the world, the majority of the many millions who will be watching on TV globally, will be in the same boat as me.
I shall be watching again on Friday for the real thing (Huw Edwards and Carrie Richards are commentating for TV in the UK, Nick Mullins for Radio5 Live). But maybe I need to find a Chinese friend to watch it with - and hopefully begin the (slow process) of my enlightenment!
