Storm clouds gather over Camp England 06:53am on 12 Jul 2009 THIS GAME AINT OVER YET!!!!..

Should England manage to hold out for a draw then it will feel like a victory of sorts...Australia will have failed (to have won) ...so who goes into the next Test with more zip is debatable.....Never Never surrender.....even if England lose this match the series aint over...Geez guys c'mon, have a little faith.

Not impossible to see Simon Jones playing for England again next year. Robin Jackman came back to play at 34/35 years of age!...But he has spent so long away from the game one feels the odds are gainst it and England are getting together a decent cluster of bowlers now anyway. He will always have the legacy of 2005 to be proud of.

Can hardly wait for Wednesday.....lets hope the lads can be proud of 2009 too!
The new Adam Gilchrist? 08:48am on 01 Jul 2009 Interesting to hear Rod Marsh' comments on the current keepers. It was arguably largely the containment of Gilchrist in 2005 that won England the Ashes. Both current keepers still appear to have the potential to change the course of a game and subsequently a series so which one comes off with the bat could be crucial.....incidentally I also wish you'd asked Rodney if he can still tuck the beers away like he used to! Does anyone else remember when he had to be stretchered off a team flight over for the Ashes during the early 70's as a consequence of overdoing the amber nectar? How times have changed!!!
Tell us your favourite Ashes moments 1:06pm on 12 May 2009 1977 was the first series of cricket I watched. Some moments of that series are very memorable....Boycott's hundred 100 probably sticks the most. 1981 was incredible of course as was 2005. Quite a few of the other series were rather bland in comparison and hard to recall even though I sat through a lot of them ball by ball!

Gower's fly past on his tour down under was tremendous......
Friday the 13th hits Antigua 3:02pm on 14 Feb 2009 Hope you get to see some cricket on Sunday..... What I'd like to know is when and why exactly was all that sand put down at all!!??? And almost even stranger who made the call to dig it up again ten minutes after the game was cancelled!??? I think the match officials including Hurst have to take some of the blame for not calling the game off earlier. Maybe everybody is a little guilty of relaxing in the sun... man!
Would it be possible to lay turf and play on it a couple of days later!? Why not just put matting down? One would have thought it would be worth a go anyway seeing as the main area ie, the wicket was supposedly fine there which by all accounts is not the case at the Recreation Ground...def not heard the last on pitch drama yet me thinks!!!
Windies triumph delights Bolt 12:05pm on 10 Feb 2009 IT'S GROUNDHOG DAY!!!!! .........whenever I hear or see Bell get out, which is usually three or four balls after he has just walked in and he unfailingly looks to the skies cringing........
(I always remember Richie Benauds commentary on just such a time during the 2005 Ashes..."and there is anguish there!!!!")

Harmison looks to recapture past glories 11:32pm on 29 Jan 2009 Hmm....so the jury is out again on Harmison eh? .........Haven't we done this before?

Form or not, it isn't far off the time when age will naturally reduce Harmison's ability to generate pace for long spells..(many would argue he has never done that anyway!!!). I would say he doesn't have the accuracy/guile ability (of say Lillee or Willis) to prolong much after the next year or so .....

I agree that Broad should be given more of an attacking commission. At the moment he seems to be being groomed into a tidy support bowler. Why not give him a Test or two on suitable wickets (in the WI) with a licence to just.... let rip..!!!

I'm also strongly hopeful that Simon Jones can make a comeback this summer although of course he too will be in his 30's. But, he is a proven "significant" wicket taker...which has been hard for England to find since he got injured and importantly is not as one dimensional as Harmison, which for me would give him more longevity as a Test bowler.
Hugely respected, much admired... but loved? 06:02am on 14 Jan 2009 I could be wrong but wasn't it "an obnoxious little DWEED" that he called H. Singh..not "WEED"!? Not quite sure if the impact goes up or down either way but anyway I think it's important to get these things right.

Hayden was a truly great batsman...and I think I know what you mean about a certain cool atmosphere to the bloke but to be honest though I think a lot of that might have been tongue in cheek anyway...some aussies are like that..... when you think of it he never really did or said anything too bad as far as I know. Rather sorry we couldn't have seen him just one more time in an Ashes series. His successor will have big boots to fill!!!
The downer Down Under 02:02am on 01 Jan 2009 One year of bad results isn't really a thing to get in such a lather about.
English cricket fans are usually grumpy because of such a protracted slump of the national team. What will be more interesting than the current poor Ozzie performances will be what happens in the next year or so. Don't know about the other sports but Ian Chappel wasn't very optimistic about the chances for a quick restoration of the Australian cricket team. We might see our Commonwealth friends have to become a bit more like us ie, sardonic and self-depreciating, just so as to be a able to deal with it!

Aussie v Brit spats are always amusing...long may they continue....lets not change a thing.
