It mattered that much to me as well as most Chinese people too. But now the olympics is turning itself to a political show and becoming meaningless.

National sentiment 12:57pm on 16 Jul 2008 James, one thing you fail to miss is the role of state media. I guess you watch it very often in China. If u r under such overwhelming one sided report since you can read and understand, you just take for granted that the country is like that.

Another thing is that China has a population of 1.3 billion. One famous author said the country is composed of " silent majority". They r not represented by the "patriotics" that you mostly see.

The last thing, as a scientist, I would like to mention that your way of monitoring the PM10 is not reliable at all. You take the data once everyday only in the middle of the day. That's a serious mistake. At least 5 data per day is necessary, in different time of the day. Only the average of the daily value is valid.

However I believe the threat from terrorist is real and Chinese gvmt reserves all the right to take any measure against them.

Despite that, i want to name some of those who did something for the chinese people but not welcomed by the gvmt.

Jiang Yanyong (doctor, the first one who revealed the SARS situation to the world)
Hu Jia (environment and human right activitist)
Gao Yaojie (doctor)
Chen Guangchen (lawyer)
Zheng Enchong (lawyer)
Guo Feixiong (lawyer)
Huang Wanli (hydrology scientist)
.......

However, James, I think you should have stayed in Sichuan at least until now. Because the quake lake is at its crutial moment. Combined with the hot weather, the coming heavy rain and aftershocks, the situation is rather dangerous. Report from there will be much more concerned than such ranking here~

I appreciate your work in China and your comments on different issues. However, I just want to say that, not all the Chinese are just pathetic puppets of the "communist" regime. So please, write in a more friendly and fair way.
