The US has 4.5 times the emissions per head. China can't cut... they just have to ensure that future energy consumers gain clean energy and that their first fridge is solar powered.

But China is doing well, and is improving in most if not all fronts.

The larger the educated population in China becomes, the more accountable and less devotee-like they'd be to the CCP. When that time comes, unless another cultural genocide comes along or another multi alliance war against China occurs, China will be thriving in a self regulating and high percentage represented government.

And how can the China 'student' above not know about proxies to get to youtube? Most students know that by now.

I went to Beijing a couple of weeks ago, it was actually: "Have you had close contact with pig within the past 1 week". Maybe they were informed by a spelling/grammar critic.

I had one check in the airport. Not three like you. And flew BA.
Still searching for answers 00:32am on 13 May 2009 You guys have to understand that positive news is not as apparent to James as others. I arrived in Beijing last week and watched some of the coverage of the years anniversary. To me, I see many Hong Kong celebrities doing their part and promoting aid. The significance of this is lost when well known Hong Kong celebs/prominent figures are not unknown to them. Being a Brit/Hong Kongese it's easier for me to see both sides of the story. For everything like this, there are always those left out, and they should be made known to the public. However, it would be nicer if journalists could be more detailed.

It's the same with the story/ies on unemployment. Of course there are people who are aggrieved to have lost their jobs. But many poor Chinese people have endured this in the past and just work through it. They still have their spirit of optimism and know that the good and bad times fluctuate.

Anyway, good post James, but I hope, however difficult, that you should try to get an edge above what all the other media outlets say.
A case of stolen identity 3:34pm on 07 May 2009 What's new? I'm not that surprised. That guy won on 'the apprentice' after he faked a qualification on his CV. He didn't even bother stealing or borrowing one, and just made one out of thin air.
