Merton labeled the third source the “imperious immediacy of interest.” By that he was referring to instances in which someone wants the intended consequence of an action so much that he purposefully chooses to ignore any unintended effects.

Before you were famous for being a) right and b) ahead of the government. The comments section was, by and large, a sensible place for discusion. Now however the nutters have arrived in large numbers and it is nowhere as interesting as it was. I 'll still read you blog because it is good, thoughtful and reasoned but I'll skip the comments section

If he wants to save money, start with the ID scheme. Pull out of two wars, reduce civil servant pension schemes, abandon NH computer plans, slow down the new schools program (It never really started), reduce doctors pay, abolish tax credits.

Did Gordon ever correctly predict the PSBR in the last 10 years?
10p tax repair 3:54pm on 13 May 2008 The question should be: “Why are these people on such low income paying tax (and National Insurance) at all?” And not “Should it be 10% or 20%”
