Benitez's brinkmanship strikes again 08:06am on 26 Oct 2009 Speaking as a chelsea supporter, I would have been really worried if liverpool had come out to the bridge and played like that - they always seem to save something special for your little tussles up north.

Ok, so from a (relativly) unbias standpoint then, I think that overall liverpool should have won that match. Watching the game, they simply seemed to want it more than united, and I think Phils sledgehammer analogy can be applied to the whole team in this case. I'm sure that if they continue to play like that then they'll be right up their contending for the title come the end of the season.

United haven't really looked the real deal yet this season, so fair play to them that they only sit 2 points behind us atm. Ronaldo has left a big hole to be filled, and I look forward to our meeting in november!
Moyes and Everton can defy odds 02:51am on 30 May 2009 I would really like Everton and Moyes win a trophy, I really would. Buuuuuut I'm a Chelsea supporter, so hopefully they don't win it this year!

But seriously, Everton have become a solid side, and have got to have silverware coming their way soon. I hope they make today's game interesting and the best of luck to them, but as I said earlier, I'll only be rooting for one team today.
Drogba still key to Chelsea success 09:55am on 10 Dec 2008 Fairly spot on article i'd say. When Drogba actually decides to turn up and play, he is immense! But as you pointed out Phil, at times he is infuriating to watch. This was shown in both legs of the Champiuons league semi finals last season. In the first leg at anfield he was completly useless, and indeed acted like a drama queen. But then in the second leg he ripped Liverpool to shreads!

He's definitly a good player, no doubt about it. I just wish - and I'm sure I won't be alone in saying this - that he could put in the world class performances he's capable of EVERY time. Untill then i guess we'll just be frustrated by him now and again - so long as he gets the goals that counts though, i think we'll be able to forgive him :)
Is Michael on his cycle? 5:42pm on 06 Oct 2008 I'm dissapointed that owens been left out yet again by capello - what does he have to do to get himself back in? He's scoring goals for newcastle, and hes been playing the full 90 mins. Dont get me wrong i wouldnt start him, but atleast have him on the bench. There's a reason why he's our number 1 competitive goal scorer.

On to the rest of the squad Lampard should definitly be picked ahead of Gerrard for the match against Kazachsthan, and before you play the biased card (because yeah i am a chelsea supporter) hear me out. When we played Croatia Lampard played brilliantly, and his form has not dipped since then. Why should Capello change a side (except allowing for injuries) that worked so well in our last game? This goes for all the other starting places as well. By all means, if Lampard plays rubbish bring Gerrard on for him - but untill then selection should be based on form and the most recent international matches.

Hopefully we play the same fluid attacking football we showed against Croatia for our upcoming matches.
Walcott and Capello stun Croatia 1:03pm on 11 Sep 2008 Unfortunalty i didnt see the game (like many) and all ive been hearing about is how we should have won 5-0 and that lampards dissalowed goal was brilliant.

Can someone please tell me how/why the goal was disallowed as i havnt seen any of the match!!!!!!!!!!
Time for England to trust Joe Cole 10:06pm on 08 Sep 2008 Another, perhaps ludicrous, point to the 'joe cole starting' saga - perhaps capello WANTS him on the bench so if things are going wrong or not working (like in the andorra game) he can bring him on as a very effective match turner. I think about half his goals for england have come as a substitute as well. Also, we've never lost a competitive match when hes come on as a sub.

Personally, i reckon he should start because he's a brilliant attacking player - but based on the stats, maybe capellos right not to start him?

Time for England to trust Joe Cole 6:47pm on 08 Sep 2008 To all those people saying that lampard is ineffective, useless etc etc - i seem to recall not too long ago him being voted our player of the year. Call me cray or something, but wouldnt that mean he played amazing etc? Fair enough, his performances havent been great recently; but then, show me an english player who has consistently put in a good performance for england?

There are 11 players in a football team, and it takes alot more than the shortfalls of one to lose a game. Never thought id have to stoop to an under 6 sunday leaguer's level to explain whats wrong with england football but there you go.
Time for Capello to deliver 9:29pm on 04 Sep 2008 The only thing i can say about the england national team is why can't we be one of the best iternational sides in the world?!?!?!

Ok, think about it for a minute, our regualar team generally consists of (in no particular order): Rooney, Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard, Gerrard, J. Cole, A.Cole, Barry, Richards, James and probably Beck's. (and yes i know that the likes of Bently, Defoe etc play as well but the names above are 'probably' those that most people would choose for an england xi, so just hear me out for a minute).

Now the thing is most, if not all, of those players are immense for club level - we're talking about being key players here. Yet when they play for the national side they rarley seem to show even half the form they produce for their clubs.

The answer is simple then. Capello just needs to somehow get the players worked up enough at international level as they are at club level. Hopefully the hurt from not going to euros will e the insperation they need.

Oh, and Owen should definitly at least be on the bench. Theres life in his international career yet i reckon.
Man Utd should sell 'slave' Ronaldo 11:32am on 11 Jul 2008 i rekcon the sooner he gos the better. Not only has he caused a tremendous amount of contriversy in his elusive plans to move from united - but as was seen again at the euros, hes not a world class player - not yet atleast. If united got 70 million for him theyd be laughing.
