Monday 1 June 2009 5:29pm on 01 Jun 2009 Is there any way of making recalcitrant MPs resign instead of hanging on until the next election and receiving a very favourable relocation allowance and a very favourable re-employment allowance, in some cases totalling £100K per MP?
BA: Loaded down 09:16am on 24 May 2009 Hmmmmm.....BA makes record loss due to £3 billion fuel bill. Oil companies continue to make handsome profits of £ billions even in a recession. Perhaps there is some connection???????? Airlines are getting screwed just as much as the UK motorist!
Friday 15 May 2009 01:27am on 16 May 2009 Compulsory voting - in other countries where this is in place the voter is not actually compelled to vote - they must attend the polling booth and have their name crossed off the list of voters. They are then free to cast a vaild vote or spoil their ballot paper or put it in the box blank or even draw a picture of 2 donkeys..........

I am really unhappy that these cheating MPs vote on a Statutory Instrument each year to deny uprating of state pensions to pensioners living in some overseas countries whilst at the same time authorising uprating for pensioners living in the UK and pensioners living overseas in nearly 40 other countries around the world. It was bad enough when we thought MPs were honourable people who made poor decisions. Now we find they are dishonest people making poor decisions for no good reason.
The nannygate allegations 7:38pm on 03 Mar 2009 In other arenas it is often said that "ignorance of the law is no excuse". That seems to be the line the police and the courts hold.

For a politician it appears that ignorance or otherwise of the law can be an excuse as long as it is "not calculated".

It is becoming more typical of life in the UK - one law for some and another law for others.
Friday, 12 December, 2008 7:05pm on 12 Dec 2008 How could a verdict of lawful killing even be considered?

Is it really lawful for the Police to go around killing innocent people just because they are scared of terrorists?

An open verdict is the best that could be achieved but really "Unlawful Killing" is what actually happened. All those involved should either resign or be sacked.

I sure don't want them on my train when next I catch the tube!
Friday, 12 December, 2008 7:03pm on 12 Dec 2008 Surely, if as the Police claim, they had to disable a potential terrorist from detonating a bomb thereby needing to quickly empty a bullet magazine into the man's head, then shouting a warning of "Armed Police" would have given the potential terrorist a warning, so that he could detonate the bomb.

Either the Police were lying to try to save their skins, or they are very inconsistent.
Is the BBC to blame for attacks on Poles? 1:45pm on 04 Jun 2008 Until this story was raised I had not realised that the BBC was focussing on the Poles as examples of migration into Britain. It seems to be true!

I know that in my town many younger Poles are not staying as long as first thought. They are working and saving money and either moving on or moving back to Poland with pounds in their pockets.

Stories about some other Eastern European migrants might balance the reported views.

One aspect that does not receive much coverage is people emigrating to other countries, which goes some way to balancing the flow of migration.

If the British Government encouraged migration, say, by uprating all state pensions paid overseas, instead of just half of them, this might encourage people to migrate overseas and take their demands on our health system, our housing stock and our social services with them.
Criminal check loophole 4:08pm on 08 May 2008 A young Australian friend obtained work as a teachers assistant in the UK and he had to provide CRB checks for his time in Australia and Japan. However, he had worked for a year in China but he was told there was no need for a CRB check from there because they can't get them. It seemed to us to make a mockery out of the CRB check vetting system.
