Are we serious about booze? 10:28pm on 26 Mar 2009 The culture of drink is the key issue....prevention and support servies
are all very well and good but the conveyor belt is still churning away
with a ready flow of young people who find alcohol the central focus of
their social life ....Scotland needs to redouble its effort through the
promotion and development of sports , leisure and wider cultural
facitlities to have an alternative to this worship of drink....minimum
pricing is a helpful tool but only a small part of the solution
The big freeze 8:59pm on 11 Feb 2009 John Swinney has made another sensible decision, following on from his deft handling with the budget the week before.

Most people will see a decision to delay LIT until there is a clearer mandate a good pragmatic move. It demonstrates if nothing else a recognition that the SNP are listening and not stuborn enough to drive through legislation in the face of public opinion (tories and poll tax please note)

We will surely get in the next couple of years, helped in part by Calman Commission, a more open debate about the range of fiscal powers the Parliament requires. It will surely force even our Labour friends to actually come up with a workable and fair alternative to the Council tax. Remember the dugs breakfast they came up with last time.

The danger for the SNP is that this may not be the only key policy to fall..who would put money on seeing an independence referundum bill going to parliament this side of 2011.

Labour and the anti SNP media are merely grasping at straws if they think they can pin the tag of thatcherite on him...where is the evidence to support this?
Seldom pure 11:23pm on 23 Jul 2008 Unfortunately, the labour lead is too large to overcome and I fully expect them to win by a couple of thousand votes.... Margaret Curran is a quality candidate but what has damaged her are comments or lack of them regarding the former MP David Marshall. She is keeping very quite about the office arrangements and expenses of the MP..she seems to suggest she never visited the office in 9 years ... I would have thought MP's and MSP's covering the same area would have worked together...she talks a good game but is clearly hiding something from the punters....
Local focus 10:11pm on 30 Jun 2008 I would be surprised if labour lost this. Glasgow is labour heartland with a solid party machine .
The main challenger, the SNP, would need to select a considerable candidate to come close to winning and put in significant campaign resources.
would discount the Sheridan impact, he is politically damaged.
Agree with some bloggers that labour record is less than impressive, although the local labour council can talk a good game on regeneration programmes

I trust that you have all read the 84 page consultation document..good....you will then of course realise that this consultation was not created on a whim but with an aim to challenge some of the very real problemns we face as a society. I think this consultation will be the start of something constructive in combatting our fixation with drink, even if some of the policy proposals never reach the statute book.
Well done the SNP for bringing this forward .

Obeying the law? 7:32pm on 03 Jun 2008 As the parent of a disabled child who has a blue badge entitlement I am saddened by selfish people who use abuse such spaces probably for no more reason that pure laziness. Jackie Baillie's Private Bill will attract cros party support and should be implimented with approproate measures to ensure that legislation is both enforceable and seen as a strong deterent..personally, I WOULD INCREASE THE FINES TEN FOLD!
