Changing Britain's relationship with Europe 3:33pm on 29 Oct 2009 I don't quite grasp this politics lark!

When do we get our ballot papers to decide which candidate we would like for the EU presidency?

I can then sit down and read all the lovely leaflets, and come to my own conclusion of who I prefer.
'A battle of the bodies' 9:31pm on 08 Jun 2009 Am I right in thinking tonight's meeting was behind closed doors? Why exactly? I will tell you. You can just imagine the Mandy spin machine at work to save Browns rear! For eg... Brown, "Wether you like me or not, support me because we cannot allow the far right to gain a bigger foothold in the future" blah,blah... Any codswallop to save their own interests! Last nights Far right gains, obviously make my stomach churn, but the Country is sending the biggest message possible to this shower! Wether you think the Country just needs a change of Labour Leadership or change of Government, it's irrelevant, the electorate over the last 48hrs have spoken! But it seems quite obvious now that this current shower are going to carry on regardless, despite what the people who they work for think!
No nudges, no winks 01:35am on 05 Jun 2009 James Purnell is correct in his analysis. And people trying to dismiss his actions as "Student Union politics" or "Not been loyal" are clearly deluded. It's the people in the cabinet who are trying to cling on to this sinking ship, not James Purnell. Labour is finished, so why doesn't Brown go now, and Labour can try and maybe gain what little credibility they have left by electing a new leader for the remaining time they have left, until a General election must be called. So by my understanding once you become an MP and cabinet minister you've got to agree with Ayatollah Brown, otherwise you're considered a lone ranger. Like Purnell said, without a change of leadership you can kiss could by to "New Labour". I'm guessing though you'll probably need to hire a welder to prize Browns hands of the railings at number 10 this time next year!

In my opinion Gordon Brown should go now, at least that would give the labour party time to find a new leader to try and turn things around with the remaining 2yrs or whatever it is until a general election is called.

I can see though that because he waited over 10yrs for the top job he's not going to step aside without a fight, But by putting his self or political career first ahead of the party he will really finish labour off! A long spell in opposition beckons.

It's a bit like the captain of a ship refusing to go down with it, when the boiler room is filling with water but the captain carries on regardless!

In my view David Milliband would be a good new leader, someone who could restore the labour party in time to give them a fighting chance at the next general election, otherwise the longer Brown stays the harder it will be for the labour party to regain any credibility with the electorate.

Yes granted I was quite general in my first response, Cuba is the only place which might come fairly near.

You obviously have no grasp of what reality is like in the NHS, Or you are a paper shuffler who never sees a patient from one year to the next.

People come from across the globe to access Specialist centres on the NHS for
eg... Hepatology,Haematology etc...
So in my view the puts our NHS as a worldwide leader in both terms of excellence and prestige.

Also judging by your points I'm guessing you've never experienced healthcare or spoken to anybody regarding healthcare in the USA then? People having to take loans out just to have basic drugs/investigations etc...

And yes I have travelled abroad on many occasions.

The only thing what concerns me about todays NHS is the level of bureaucracy that exists. I hope today's announcement will go someway to removing the uneccessary targets and red tape that is rife.

Wether or not people are a fan of "Socialised Medicine" as Ronald Reagan put it, we should all keep in mind that we are the envy of the world and that no other country either richer or poorer has any healthcare system that comes anywhere close to the NHS.

As a former Hospital Porter, Today like most days I feel immensly proud of the NHS and all it's staff.

So Gordy has rolled over, and promised more troops for Afghanistan, wouldn't it be more helpful if more of the NATO countries cough up more troops?

Gordy also beefed up the rhetoric on Iran regarding sanctions etc... Which ultimately just "Starve innocent people".

It's quite interesting how GWB didn't spend much time talking about Zimbabwe?

In my view the situation in Zimbabwe is in need of immediate action, and would probably warrant military action, to overthrow Mugabe the dictator, who has even said that despite any electoral win the MDC will never rule!

Like I said in an early post, I agree with Mr Davis in principle.

But I think he would have made more of an impact over this issue by simply resigning as an MP over this bill, that would have brought more attention to his motives.

Wether we think the govt used underhand tactics or not to get this bill through, what's done is done.

If you want to oppose something you've got to go through the proper channels.

So Mr Davis wins the bye election by a comfortable majority then what?

He's back to the back benches, and the bill will eventually go through the Lords and onto the statue book via the use of The Parliament Act anyway!

Off topic, watching Adam Boulton's interview with Bush. To quote Bush "You can get a lot done with 6 months left" eg... An attack on Iran maybe? who knows?

There again his Father deployed troops to Somalia at the backend of his term in office, which then Bill Clinton had to pick up the pieces.

It's about time somebody stood up against this current Orwellian Society we are currently living in.

Mr.Davis is right in saying that our liberties and traditional values are being slowly eroded under the umbrella of fighting terrorism.

I'm gonna crawl back into my padded room and take the nice sweeties the kind lady has given me!

I'll give him a few weeks until he puts his foot in it!

He actually looked worried when the winner was declared because the reality had sunk in! He'd won, now he's got to be serious for a change!
