The foundations of today's world 8:36pm on 17 Feb 2009 Deng was such a calculating person. The 79’s War with Vietnam was part of his grand Open’n’Reform plan. He staged the 79’s war when he had the decisive power in order to provide the PLA a platform to gain real battlefield experiences. Although Vietnam as a nation was weak after the previous long war with the US, the Vietnamese military was more experienced and better equipped with the weapons from both the US and USSR. At the time, Vietnam boasted the 3rd strongest military on the planet next to the US and USSR. China did not really win 79’s War, but indeed gained reorganization that China must modernize the PLA along with the economic reform. To be honest, older generations of Chinese still resent 79’s War…
The Semi-Attacked Politicians' Club 8:20pm on 03 Feb 2009 How strange that Wen is genuinely loved by many Chinese people in China and overseas. But, some western radicals call him a "dictator". He is the CEO of China Inc. Does that make him a dictator? Doesn’t someone have to make executive decisions in a corporation? I just do not understand how democracy-maniacs define a dictatorship.

Anyway, I saw the clip on this site. Thank you, BBC. I am very taken by how gracious Wen was. Wen is one of the most polished politicians in the world. Well done, Grandpa Wen.

I do not think you will never be granted an interview with Wen or Hu when they are still in power if you are serious about the first 2 questions. I suggest you prepare some smart questions about Zhao Ziyang as “part of your book research” if you may have a chance to sit down with Wen.
