The reality is that Tibet is a part of China. China has every right to do whatever it sees fit on its own land.

It is your imagination that Tibet is separate country. I am afraid you won't be able to live to the day to see Tibet becoming a separate "country".

Then, using the Chinese doctrine of "no meddling" one could say that China shouldn't meddle in the appointment of these officials."

How many people would agree on this? Which country allows its own citizens to work as ambassadors and consuls for a foreign country. On top of that, a country has the right to stop diplomatic relationship with another country, which is exactly what happens between China and Vatican now. Even if the diplomatic relationship is recovered, China still has the right to determine how many ambassadors and consuls Vatican could send to China and where the consulates and embassy should be built.

How many people in China do you think are followers of the CCP ideals? Let me tell you, close to zero. It was your imagination, not your research, at work again.

This is not news. Learn the history. This problem has always been the focus from day one. Personally, I don't think China should ever accept a church inside its domain controlled by Vatican. It is good that Vatican is starting to accept this.

This is the key point of dispute.

Guys, it is not that China don't want the west to solve the problem. China has sent in its help and pushing Burma to accept more. However, what your proposed "humanitarian invasion" can do for Burmese. I think it will stay with verbal attack against the Junta forever. No one would really do anything like an "invasion". The reality is, you have to talk to them with respect. That is the only viable way if you really want to help.

I see no point of shifting the blame to China. At least you should focus on how to save the real victims.
The 'no meddling principle' 10:26pm on 08 May 2008 What's going on in your mind, James? I see nothing wrong with China's view on that matter? Do you mean that if China says "Free World. Please knock down Burma's doors and send in help." Then it is politically right? You sound a bit ridiculous here.

Why blame China for Burma's problem? If your country want to do something right, why don't your country just do it. Like in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Suppose during Katrina, China says, "Come on, you stupid Bush government. Let us help with our troops." Would that sound right?

China, at least, has the right to voice its opinion on the matter. Burma is an independent country, they have the right to shoot anyone who enters its territory without permission.

That is your understanding and it is common among people who has always had a negative impression on China. It may take you just one trip to China to change many of your understandings.

After all, it is the first time oversea Chinese have ever got their voices heard clearly. The protests are not staged, it is provoked and spontaneous. Most of us lack skills in protesting which did caused some negative feelings. However, one shouldn't generalize or stereotype China and Chinese.

I think James is in a better position to talk about China because he is actually there. It will take foreigners like you a long time to better understand China. China is quite different from other part of the world, indeed. However, China is definitely changing for good.

I am very glad to see this blog created. I hope this place can become another bridge for people from different cultures to understand each other.
