Pic of the day: iPlayer on the Wii 00:12am on 19 Nov 2009 It's pretty good. It does seem to still suffer from the usual BBC bizarreness of not pre-buffering the video at all, so any contention on the line immediately causes problems, but otherwise, it's good.

It seems there's the beginnings of a story here; so far we know:
- That Jim Gamble's organisation doesn't understand how to renew a domain registration,
- Don't notice a porn link on their own front page,
- Respond to a complaint of bullying by fobbing the victim off with a phone number for someone else.

It seems pretty clear that Jim Gamble's campaign is entirely for the promotion of Jim Gamble, since his sites show no interest in actually helping children, nor any degree of basic understanding of the internet. Does anyone know where to find a journalist that can follow this up? :-)

I don't, and it doesn't sound like many other people here do either. If you are, then perhaps you could explain why you're so sure that Jim Gamble's self-aggrandizing efforts are better than Facebook's existing systems
Round up Thursday 12 November 2009 11:04am on 17 Nov 2009 There is no reason for DRM on Freeview HD; while the programme makers might threaten to take their balls home if it doesn't happen, they won't actually do it. They didn't do it in the US when the 'Broadcast Flag' was ruled illegal there, they didn't do it here when Freesat HD launched with no DRM, and they didn't even do it over the DRM free Flash based iPlayer.

They won't do it, because they know there's no point in closing one door while so many others remain wide open - if you could make Freeview HD's DRM absolutely 100% watertight (and you can't) it still wouldn't help because uploaders would simply go to one of the DRM free alternative sources, as they do now.

States, including the US, grant authors a copyright for a specific purpose - to encourage them to make works available to the public. If authors abuse that right to make things unavailable, then they deserve to lose it.
BBC HD on Freeview: rollout dates 6:54pm on 16 Nov 2009 So, given the state of play with OfCom, can we assume that the ill-conceived DRM plan is actually dead, or are you still hoping to resurrect it?
BBC iPlayer Standard Products on TV Platforms 5:15pm on 13 Nov 2009 When an overseas broadcaster shows BBC programming, including just carrying the basic BBC channels, they pay the BBC for the privilege, so even if there isn't money coming from each of their viewers individually, it's coming from somewhere.

You don't need an additional licence for a phone if you've got one at home since they're covered under the exemption for 'non-installed' devices that run from internal batteries.
