James has spelled it right.

If we spell the Chinese names in local dialects, such as Cantonese, there will just be chaos and confusion.

Cantonese is only one of the thousands of different Chinese local dialects, and it is meant to be used locally only. Just because he is a Cantonese, does not mean that his name should not be spelled in standard Chinese, which is Mandarin.

Mandarin is not a local dialect, it is the national standard, and it represents the Chinese official.

So, James spelling is 100% perfectly right!
Earthquake impact 2:27pm on 27 May 2008 Hi James, again I post my response first.

1) Yes, the earthquake has changed China. Not only that, the Tibet turmoil has also changed China. China has never stopped changing for the past few decades, and the change is not likely to stop anytime soon.

That is exactly why, we need tolerance and understanding. The People's Republic of China is so far only 59 years old, comparing to USA and Britain, it is still an infant as a republic nation....therefore, the tolerance and assistance for it to learn is vital.

2) The earthquake (and the Tibet turmoil, and the Olympic torch relay...) has definitely changed the western views on China. Not only that, it has changed many Chinese views on China itself. Chinese as a people, and China as a nation has never been observed as so unified and open before, especially in such a huge scale and positive manner. The collective spirit of the Chinese that was traditional perceived as a "brainwash outcome" or a threat to the world, has now been seen as an unbeatable spirit of humanity, of affection, and of compassion. China is ever more closer to the west, as well as the west is ever more closer to China.

3) The Tibet issue is not new, and China as a country has its policies and principles that need to be consistent and lawfully adhered to. I think it is not only, if at all, about the change of the Chinese government, but more importantly it is about the way the west look at and tackle this issue. I hope when the west is not so biased and arrogant as it has been, the Tibet issue will be much more easier to resolve.

China is a nation rising from the rubbles.

This earthquake is a nirvana of a great people.
Did we show too much? 3:02pm on 26 May 2008 To your point, I completely agree with you on this issue, that graphical images may have a deep impact on those who do not yet have the capacity of absorbing the disturbance, e.g., the kids.

But also, I agree with you that the truth has to be told, and those victims deserved to be heard, even they were muted by their lives taken by the quake.

Only when the rest of the world truly realises what has happened, can they realise how important and desperate their sympathy and help mean to those caught in the disaster.

So I think though painful and disturbing, the truth needs to be told!

I suggest similar to the film classification system, we should have a classification system for the news reports, so that the right audiences can see the right things.

Thanks James for the good work and honesty. This earth quake has brought you ever closer to our hearts.

Test for the nation 4:38pm on 14 May 2008 James, again, when you said such things as "China is keen to show the outside world ...." on the TV report, you are merely disclosing your cold-blood and inhumane viewpoint...

How dare you!!??

How on earth dare you say such a thing that saving tens of thousands of fading lives counted by mini-seconds, as a Chinese show off??!!

It only shows that how extremely ego-centric and self-righteous you are, that you think whatever China does is about how you look at and think of China...you are so pathetic!
Test for the nation 04:28am on 14 May 2008 James, although I am not in Sichuan, my heart is with all those victims. And my eyes are with you, same as the rest of the world.

China as a nation has suffered so much in a matter of months this year, first the snow storms, then the heavily biased western attack of the Tibet issue, then the tumbling stock market and high inflation of the basic food price, the hand-foot and mouth diseases....and worst of all, this disaster equal to an explosion of over 300 atomic bombs...

Chinese people need understanding and at least a fair reporter who can tell the world what is truly happening...and under the spotlight now, is you!

The Chinese, after so much, deserves a fair viewpoint, which can at least show that they are not alone, not forgotten, not being seen just as a bunch of communist brainwashed ignorants...we are all equal human beings.

I have to say you are brave enough to go to Sichuan at such a time that more after-shocks may still be possible. So I thank you...all the Chinese people around the world thank you!

But we also plea to you, please for the sake of those who died in such a tragedy, please report frankly, and report what you really see and truly believe. People's lives are to be respected, not to be used as tools for media manipulation or criticism.

China-Vatican relations 2:45pm on 09 May 2008 Good news. China has a vast population, with diverse beliefs. A healthy relationship between the Vatican and China will bring stability and inter-faith understanding to the whole world.

China is doing well. And China is changing.

Although the wheel in Vatican is moving slowly, the wheel in China shows no sign of slowing down. With the talk to Dalai Lama and now this, I see all positives of this great ancient nation.

History has proven that, the western "humanitarian invasion" imposed to those third world countries are NOT working, Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea...for examples....the list can go on and on and on and on...

The reason of West failing? ...No Respect!

The first delivery of aid relief to Burma, brought by whom? CHINA!, not the west.

Who else can bring the Olympic flame and the spirit of international unity to North Korea? Only CHINA!

Take a moment and revisit yourself, once you get rid of your arrogant superiority, can you then receive other countries respects.
